Was wondering, with the outrageous fuel costs lately if anyone is using regular unleaded and compensating for the lower octane with a booster, and if so, which booster are you using and how has it been working out?

We are at 6.20 a falling for super and anticipation of 8-10 a gallon gas has got me a bit concerned.

I use an octane booster from Amazon to take it from 91 to 93 for my tune. I'm not sure I would go to any lower octane from the pump, but that's just me. It would save you about $.60/gallon to run 85 octane. Approx 15 gallons is $9 savings from running 91. Then you would need 2 bottles of booster at $2.50/bottle. So you are really talking about $4 savings on each tank.

I feel you. Just noticed that some stations have their price signs off in LA area. I "accidentally" paid 5.99/gal to fill up my girlfriend's Rogue the other day because I was in a hurry and near LAX. Cost me like 84 bucks... and it was 87 octane 🙄

Well when you put it that way, doesn’t sound worth the hassle. Just thought I’d ask. Thanks bud

I wouldn't do it..... You are only saving a few bucks a tank and I think 93 or even 91 is going to be superior to 87 with octane boost. Not worth trying to save $5 per tank assuming that premium is 50 cents more per gallon and the octane boost is $5 per can....

From what I have read, it costs more to truly boost octane to premium with the booster than the price difference in gas.

Can you get by with it, yes. I imagine you could run 87 with no octane boost and not grenade the engine, but going to hurt performance and I'd be worried about it. Peace of mind is worth it for me.

You probably already know this, but...........there is a big difference in how much extra stations charge for going from regular to premium. Travellink on the app page will tell you cost of premium fuel and tell you the closest station.

Yeah. I’m in Calif so it really isn’t that broad of a difference near where I live. I use Gas Buddy but still when Arco is charging 5.80 you know your screwed at any of the top tier stations.

This. The savings is negligible.
