Some background: I placed an order for a black 392 two weeks ago (black clearcoat, front camera, hinge-gate reinforcement, sky top, aw floor mats, trail rail, gorilla glass, and tow pack). Order was in, all was right. About a week ago, I decided I didn't want the hassle of maintaining a black Wrangler (again), canceled the black order, and switched to silver.

Today I got a call from the dealer and some frustrating news. It appears that (1) Billet Silver isn't currently available to order and (2) they can ONLY place orders if they include the Xtreme Recon package.

I'm thinking of switching to white, which is OK. The issue I'm having is the 4.56 gears on the XR package, along with the 35s. I'm not buying the 392 for its efficiency, but my use will still be 90% on-road, so the XR package seems like unnecessary overkill. The 35s are cool but I probably would not have changed the base 33s. So, I'm spending an extra $4,000 for options I don't really want and I'm thinking that gas mileage is going from bad-but-expected to wtf-why-can-i-see-the-needle-moving. I also don't expect to ever see a fraction of that $4,000 on resale over a "regular" 392.

For those of you who have re-geared your Wranglers and put on larger tires (or those who have opinions on such things), am I making too much of this? Thanks!

For those interested, here are the currently available colors:

And, per my dealer, here's what the XR package adds for $3,995 (I hadn't seen the comprehensive list):

Order the white and if you want a regular non Recon I have a White one with 1500 miles and its never been titled as I have a dealers license and will make a trade deal. Mine also has an 8 year extended warranty.

I dont want to put in writing on a forum the answer to your question but I can tell you I had a Recon on order and had the exact same thought going through my mind and my dealer friend and I agreed that if I was having reservations lets just let him sell a new one to another good customer that missed the first go around.

I dont have concrete evidence but I am close to people that do very extensive research because they are up fitters and while we all are not 100% sure for the short period of time I ran 37's on my 392 I swear I saw the 4cly light come on more often but I didnt do enough highway and entire gas tank tests.

Buy it or place the order and I will take it

I was told the same thing when placing my order last week. Kinda sucks bc I'll be taking the 35s off for 37s but whatever. My biggest concern is the wheels. I ordered the granite crystal with the intention of putting in red seats to have the concept. Now I'm not sure what wheels I'll get.

Concept

And now this is what Jeep posted on ig to announce the Recon package

It's not the same wheel. Close but not the same.

Fwiw this is what they got from Jeep

Interesting. It looks like the standard Rubicon might get the black version of that new wheel (which I don't hate) while the 392 gets the bronze version. Thanks for sharing.

Yea its not bad, just not what I want. Going to call and see if I can somehow get the old wheels.

I also placed an order for the Recon today, I missed the part about the different wheels, looks like I will be selling those, and getting something else, I guess it is a good thing I have an extra set of wheels in my garage.

Any thoughts if the extreme recon AGB pkg being available after market at a mopar dealer.

And they all come with chrome lug nuts(n)... no options there, Grrrr!!

I am not sure how to feel about it….but I guess it is to push money back towards Jeep vs AEV/Starwood and other companies

Yeah no choice now, If they were gong to force it I don't know why they don't just add it as standard equipment and bump the MSRP. Pretty much all profit for them. Cost of gearset is no different and the cost between 33" and 35" tires are minimal for them. 392 already has a lift. People will buy the 392 either way so I get why they are doing it. I'm mostly surprised they did not do it out of the gate with the 392. Guess they were testing the market. I'm also surprised they are confident in the axles running 4.56 but apparently they are.

I picked my 392 up a week ago. Have just over 1,000 miles now. I was surprised with the MPG and range, to be honest I expected less. I averaged 17 coming back form a Miami trip set on 79 mph, must have had a tail wind but it was over 220 miles on that tank. I expect that was above normal and not what I will see on a regular basis, Probably closer to 15. Range for me is important so I will be curious to see what the 35" and 4.56 do to MPG. 4.56 with a 35" will raise the rpm's on the highway so there will be some loss in MPG. Looks like 337 RPM more between the two set ups at 70mph going off gear charts.

that is the Mopar Beadlock wheel that has been around for years

Let me know if you want to trade yours for my old wheels, mine are in a boxes and were taken off at 200 miles.

I ordered mine 7/22/21 and did not have to order the Recon package. I received my VIN 8/2.

This is really interesting. The Jeep configurator is now updated to show the XR package as an option.

I've come around on the XR package and will keep it on my order, as it seems fairly cost-effective and probably helps with resale, but great to see that Jeep is finally giving the option.

Wow, I guess Jeep is just all over the place right now. I'm glad they gave people the option on new orders. I wonder if you don't get the XR package if you get the original wheels and shocks?

That's what the configurator suggests.

I’m glad they updated the website to show it can be added. I added it to my order, not sure how I feel about the Bronze wheels. They are growing on me.

Do y’all think it’s worth it for the 4.56 gears when adding 37s in the future?

Also seems late in the game to add it to the website with 22s just a couple months away. Makes me wonder if the 392 will be made next year or past next year with the all electric one coming in 23.

I hope it isn’t made for more than 2 model years. That may make ours more valuable
