2023 Jeep 392 XR, 2019 Ram 1500 Limited
Hello Everyone! I ordered a 2023 XR in Sting Gray from Mark Dodge on June 7th. Great folks to work with and seemed like a pretty good deal at a little over 7% below MSRP. Originally, I was disappointed that the Crystal Granite was no longer available. I really wanted the CG to match the color of my 2019 Ram Limited. However, I was at the dealership today getting some warranty work done on my Ram when I noticed two new Gladiators side-by-side in the parking lot. One was Sting Gray and the other Crystal Granite. As the clouds passed by I could see the two colors next to each other in both shade and sunny conditions. What I noticed is that the SG popped and looked amazing in both sun and shade, as the CG really only impressed in the full sun and kind of faded in the shade. I am now happy that we have the SG on order!

Very thankful for this site and it's members as I have already learned so much about the 392. Many thanks to all who contribute!

My JKU was GCM. It's a great color. It does look amazing in the sun, but yes, in the shade it can almost take on a metallic black type of hue. I sort of liked it for that reason.

I used to be against flat colors, but I've changed my tune after I picked up an FJ TTUE (flat medium blue).

Now when I look at sting gray and GCM, I actually prefer sting gray.

I really like that Flat Medium Blue on the FJs! And like you, I was against the flat colors as well. I've always felt safe with how metallic paints hide scratches and imperfections. But after finally getting to see the colors next to each other, the flat paints really set themselves apart. I think I would have been equally happy to have it in the GCM, but now I am not fearful that the SG was maybe going to disappoint. The pastels really look great!

Ordered my SG in Aug 21 and it was delivered late Jan 22… It’s been a blast every since the break-in period was up. I think you’ll be happy with your color choice. Word of advice - maybe think about getting a quality ceramic coating because the SG paint/finish will show every swirl mark that exists. I’ve included a couple pics from when mine was coated a few months ago. It’s made a huge difference, even though it cost a small fortune!

Thanks my friend, this is good advice!! Your Jeep is definitely shining!!!!!

Congrats!

I ordered my non-XR at the beginning of the month. I originally ordered It in Bright White but changed to Earl Clear-Coat after Jeep made the announcement.

My only planned mods are a set of Mopar running boards and a set of 35" tires.

Congrats to you as well! That Earl looks good and is really going to set itself apart on the road👍😎

Ok, so I'm a little colorblind and the computer screen makes it even more difficult, so what color is Earl Clear exactly? It looks like of a sort of sky blue/grey ish to me, but I'm just not sure. Mine is White, but I'm intrigued with this Earl color now that I'm seeing it.

I perceive it as light gray with a bit of blue tint.

someone mentioned it looks like polished primer so now that’s all I think when I first see it. But once I get that out of my mind, I sorta like it. I think it looks really sharp with the rubicon red and black accents.

It’s shiny, so it doesn’t look like primer to me. If anything, Sting Grey looks like primer with a hint of shine. I like Earl and I suspect it will be pretty uncommon. I probably won’t order my 23 until they decide on an anniversary edition, but if that’s an option, I may go for it. I generally only buy white vehicles, though, so it may not happen.

Earl "Clear-Coat" may be a little misleading. All jeeps have a clear coat, the final coat when spraying to give it shine. Earl is the base color. I initially thought when I read that , that perhaps Jeep was tinting their clear coat with a pearl or candy, but even then a solid clear goes over that, this is called a tri-coat.

Did you really just "man-splain" clearcoat to another man? 😆

One thing is that someone who ordered it said when their order went in, they weren't able to order the half door option with it for some reason. I'm not sure if that is the same with Reign or not and if it has changed by now.

Anyway, not everyone cares about half doors, but it was a thing that happened so thought I'd mention it.

Well, I know you can build it with the dual door option on the website (not that THAT means it's going to work when the dealer goes to put the order in).

I read somewhere the half-door option wasn't available for any limited edition colors. But I'm sure there will be exceptions (like the person who changed color mid-stream and got a Gobi 392 XR).

That's interesting to know.

I love that story of the person who got the XR Gobi. Such a rare bird and cool Jeep. If I had that, I'd almost be afraid to take it out and drive it. ha.

I'd love to see a photoshop of Earl with the red interior on the 20th A concept.
