Just going through my order for a Sting Gray 2023 392 and dealer is telling me they only offer Dual Top Group but she said that it is black. Anyone else seeing no body color hard top or is there a mistake?

If so, will getting black allow it to match?

That doesn’t make sense since the 392 comes with color matched hard top baseline. She is almost certainly referring to the color of the soft top that comes with the dual top group. When you choose ‘dual top group’ on a 392 you’re basically just saying “I also want a soft top from the factory in addition to the color matched hard top that comes with it”.

She is telling you it is black because there is an option to get a tan soft top if you prefer that over a black soft top.

I’d get in contact with your dealer/salesperson to clarify.

To answer your other question, the black non-color matched hard top will blend in with black body paint, but it will not match.

Here is an example of a JKU with the baseline black freedom top. You can see it almost matches, but it has a bit more of a matte finish to it and doesn’t match the rest of the body exactly.

At the top under functional packages you can see the dual top group. However you can see the sky one touch option further down. Maybe she is seeing the same view but only looking at the top part under functional packages and only seeing dual top as the only top option and not looking at the sky one option further down.

There was talk in another thread about how there may be a shortage of the sky one touch tops and that getting one may delay an order build. However, it seems at least a few of our dealers were able to put orders through yesterday with the one touch option.

Basically on a 392 you get the freedom body color hard top at baseline. You can switch that to a sky one touch top if you want. In that case you will not get a freedom body color hard top.

If you are going with the baseline body color freedom top, you can get a dual top group which as I said in my other post, is basically also getting you a soft top from the factory. Your Jeep will come with the hard top on and the soft top will be packed up in boxes in the back of the jeep I think (that’s how half doors work too…they end up packed up in their boxes in the back of the Jeep on delivery the way I understand it).

You can also order sunrider and sun bonnets from the factory, but those are add ons and don’t affect the main top you got (baseline color matched freedom top vs sky one touch top).

Edit: Ok, reading back through that, it seems clear as mud. To simplify, these are the tops you can get on a 392:

1. Do not change order at all and you then get the baseline body color matched freedom top
2. Dual top group: On the 392, you would then get a soft top from the factory in addition to the baseline body color matched freedom top.
3. Get the sky one touch which switches the top from the body color freedom top to the sky one touch top. You can’t add a soft top on to this option because the windshield headliner does not have the appropriate attachment points for the soft top (or the freedom panels for that matter)

Then the sun bonnets and sun riders which are just extra add ons. You can easily get those types of things after market.

I’d be very surprised if they would only offer the black hard top on the 392 suddenly. If I am not relating things correctly someone who knows more, please correct me.

This was super helpful, thank you. I am going to talk to them again today to confirm.

There’s very few options to choose on a 392 being it’s fully loaded.
There are very few options to select as compared to other trims.
She either doesn’t know wtf she’s talking about, or she’s simply referencing the soft top and there’s some breakdown in the communication between you two.

I recommend what I tell my team when communication isn’t working.
Surplus Carrier Pigeons are on sale at Walmart. They are magnificent at getting messages delivered. 🤣
