So I just got an email not more than 9 months into ownership for a system map update. Started to follow the email prompts and it took me to a page where they/FCA wants a hundred bucks to update. WTF?
Is this a necessary evil or a scam?
Any insights would be appreciated.
Thx
Bob

I've never updated any of the built in navigation on any of the JLs I've owned, but that's because I use Google Maps in Android Auto for my trips. I'd say save your money if you have something on your mobile phone that will always be more updated than a navigation system in the Jeep.

I got the same email. However when I check for available map updates by VIN number....said no updates available.
Seems like a scam to get you on their email list?

I noticed the message in the email also states that the map update may also include software updates, but it does not specify what those would be.

Yep, this is Jeep/MOPAR :poop::poop::poop: for you. They sold you $100k vehicle, you paid for a navigation (which is junk BTW) at the day of purchase and now they want to charge you $100 annually for map updates like it was freakin 1996. Other than in 1996 it would have been justified as they would need to send a map on a CD, plus that was new tech back then. Moreover if you pay for the update you'll get a map that is few months old and that was outdated at the day of release. This is beyond absurd.
