I didn’t add the tow package when ordered my 392 since I was tight on budget and never towed anything in the past. Now I’m planning on getting a hitch receiver installed for my bike rack and this plate/spacer drew my attention.

I took it off with 18mm socket today, no need a breaker bar at all. As you can see from the pictures, it was positioned on the right off the center point of the beam and two bolts screwed into its welded nuts. What left on the frame are just two small foam pads.

Anyone has any insights about the purpose of this piece? I’ve seen hitch receivers with two welded nuts from Mopar or the aftermarket ones without welded nuts but only 4 holes.

Those of you ordered the tow package, can you snap a few pictures to show me the factory version?

That is a "Bumper Mounting Spacer". I would assume (probably incorrectly) that is intended to fill the gap between the bumper and the frame. Mopar parts lists it kind of as an "extra" part. Part # 33 in the pic.

Thanks for referencing the parts. I did more search and have seen people had the CURT 13392 installed with the existing spacer but it's a very tight fit. I still don't get it because this spacer is not long enough, it can only be used for one side of the hitch and with two screws.

Got the Curt 13392 hitch receiver installed today. I didn’t use that spacer plate and the two screws. I had to enlarge two holes on the hitch a bit to align. The end result looks great.
