Howdy,
Long time reader first time posting. I am looking at buying my first Jeep either a Rubicon or a 392. And while I like the 392 my wife is campaigning for the regular old JL Rubicon cuz it is lower to the ground by a good inch and a half or so and easier for her and the kids to climb into. I know I can add a step but… Do you guys think it would be possible to replace the FOX factory lift with a standard Rubicon components to make the 392 the same height as a regular old Rubicon? I plan on staying with the 33” KO2’s and the most rock crawling it will see is a parking curb at Chick-fil-A. I am not sure if there might be clearance issues with the control arms or other suspension components given the larger engine and oil pan in the 392. Thanks!

Please don’t lower a 392, add some electric steps, I just added the RSE electric steps. I personally like these over the AMP, however my wife liked the AMP on my JK more than these. The step itself is much more narrow on the RSE and she feels like she might miss it or have trouble in heels or something.

I am interested in this question too, but I would prefer not to change the suspension out for it

My 392 ships this week I'm told 🤞 and I agree with the opinions that from the factory it has too much wheel space. I hadn't considered the option of "dropping it a bit". This question made me think of it from the opposite perspective of 1-2 inch spacers lift, so perhaps a 1-2 inch compression?

Apologies for the noobness of the question, but I would like to know if anyone has thoughts if this would be a possible and/or realistic approach

I understand it would likely hurt ride quality (at least somewhat) and would reduce some off road ability, but likely not materially below a standard Rubicon (maybe?) and 35s / tazr etc has compromises too

Thanks in advance and this forum is great 🙌

Besides the fact that it could be done, lowering it by 1.5" would probably a.) not have much of a practical affect on the ability to get in and out b.) would likely reduce ride quality and 3.) reduce resale value. The steps would solve all of these problems. If you really want a lower ride height save yourself $10K-$20K and get a lower sitting JL, since you said it really won't ever be used for off roading.

I’m in “Camp Don’t Do It.”
get retractable (or fixed mount if you’re not off roading) side steps.
