Love My 24 but

Might be good to say what roof you have with drone.

With or without hot heads liner?

My 22XR with sot with hot heads only drones between 1500 and 2000 in mds mode. Anoying, yes. Loud, acceptable. So I drive in manual.

The '24 drone is one of life's great mysteries. Wish Jeep would just tell us what change could have caused it so we can experiment to address it.

My '22 XR SOT...no drone at all in any setting. My '24 F.E. SOT has the deceleration drone in Performance setting but I am lucky, it is not bad at all and tolerable, just a bit annoying. No appreciable drone in Quiet mode.

I've owned many V8's over the decades including Hellcats, a GT500, SRT Grand Cherokees, early Raptors, a couple of Vette's and a built '69 Camaro. None had drone. I had a Harley Davidson Edition F150 that I "upgraded" the exhaust on...was fine stock, the drone after the upgrade was brain piercing and intolerable...went back to stock.

My experience is the SOT is not a factor in drone. My '24 F.E. steering does feel noticeably tighter and it generally feels more solidly built regarding random noises for the body/interior fit. I've owned 2 392's, 2 JL Rubicons and a JK Sahara. The '24 is by far the most tight and solid feeling.

I did test drive a couple of 24's before locking in on mine and there was a difference in amount of drone. It became a factor in my final choice.

It isn't as bad with the exhaust off. With your foot of the gas it starts at 2000 rpm and stops at 1500 rpm. It is most intense from 1900-1600 rpm. It's a very loud bass drone. Annoying like when you only have one window down in the back.
I would be curious to know if this is your MDS kicking on? Try engaging your paddle shifters and notice of you still hear it in different gears withing those RPM parameters? THE MDS does not engage when the paddle shifters are engaged.

23 SOT. No drone here. In fact, not sure what it is even like. I wouldn't mind an audio/video of it to understand how bad it is.

DRONE UPDATE - NOT GOOD NEWS

Hi,
I have that terrible drone that many 2024 owners are complaining about.

I have tried both the Borla and AWE systems. Although both are excellent products, if your 392 exhibits this very loud drone, neither the Borla or AWE systems will make it any better.

I have complained to Jeep about this. My dealer assessed the drone (very loud and deep bass drone - 83 decibels at 45 Hz - which is blistering anyone's eardrums). The dealer also agreed there is something definitely wrong and this drone should Not be present. The dealer documented in my work order that the drone is "loud and intolerable" after only a 5 min test drive with me in the vehicle. The shop foreman even reported that the drone gave him a headache after 5 min in the vehicle and this is definitely a problem.

I have spend a lot of time communicating with customer service at Jeep Cares. They tell me that they have explained the problem to the engineers at Jeep. They claim the engineers at Jeep have "engineered" that specific drone to be there, and there is no fault with the vehicle.

If you can believe it, I am being told by Jeep that our 392s have been specifically engineered to exhibit that same horrible drone that the dealer has officially documented as "loud and intolerable". The same drone that 100% of people who ride in my Jeep also cannot tolerate.

Jeep/FCA needs to do something about this problem for the affected vehicle, instead of ignoring it.

The drone alone ruins the Jeep experience, it's that bad.
Hello, thank you for bringing this to our attention. Please send us a private message with the last eight characters of the VIN and the name of the dealership you are working with, so we can look into this further.

I had a 22 392 and now have an early 24 392 I don't notice any drone sounds - steering seems better than the 22 - tighter, but I chalk that up to the wider tires - goes down the highway straight as an arrow - even when hard breaking - and I'm averaging about 13.5 - 14.3 MPG with about 3,000 miles on the odometer. no complaints here.

What you are experiencing driving the 24 as opposed to earlier models is spot on. The frame is different on the 24. It is just one of many improvements over earlier models. Regardless of what FOOLS say, not all these 392s drive the same. If you have any intention of purchasing one, do yourself a favor and drive several new ones. Just because they're new, they aren't the same.

21/22/23/24/25... OEM/Modified... lifted/not lifted... 35's or 40's... Rock Crawler/Overlander/ or Parking Lot Princess...i got this one/I got that... this ones better... who gives a sh*t? They are all phenomenal rigs regardless or year; no one's a "FOOL" to own any of them.

My '22 is runs just fine 🍻

If you go back and read my post you'll understand that I NEVER said anyone was a FOOL for owning a 392. Although reading comprehension may not be your beast thing in life! Try reading it SLOWLY!

I have a 24 and so does a friend of mine. I've noticed his drives better than mine , both stock and same air pressure.

Could it be part of the downhill decent feature being turned on by default? It kind of seems to hold the gears when decelerating. Like when you get off the freeway. You can turn that feature off in settings. I know it's a long shot.

That's interesting.
I'll search settings. Is there a specific page or item to toggle off? I know that keeping Off Road+ turned off reduces the amount gear are held in deceleration too.

I think you are referring to hill assist function. I'll turn that off, and see what happens.
Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion. I disabled the hill assist function, but no change in the drone at low RPM. The Hill Descent Control feature is only active in 4 Low. Also no improvement there. It was worth a shot (y).

Another forum member noted that the drone reduced considerably, almost gone with more mileage. Wonder if it's related to the Cats once they get worn in enough? I've got 4500km (2700 miles) on my mine. Dealership will not tell me if there were any changes to the cats in the 2024 model year compared to previous years, which don't drone as bad.
