Looks like the Wrangler 4xE is now official dead! Nothing left to do but watch the vultures circle.

It's amazing how the car industry works, last year many 4xe purchasers were saying buying a 392 was a loosing prospect, large displacement gas engines were as good as dead and that the 4xe was the way of the future.

Well, guess it didn't work out that way. I must admit to a degree I feel sorry for those 4xe owners. Fire's, recalls, crazy electrical problems, software downloads that bricked them in place and dealerships that did not have the expertise to actually fix them. Add to that over-inflated prices initially, literally no battery range and the disappointment list goes on an on.

Actually I am not surprised Jeep is abandon the sinking ship, much like our 392 FE that will take a monetary hit because of the new 79k Moab 392.

When a major auto manufacture totally discontinues a vehicle line like the 4xe you can be sure it will be the death nail for the resale value of a used unit. Watch them start showing up like crazy on the used car market! Who know maybe some aftermarket companies will sell kits to convert them to 100% gas and delete the electric stuff. (idea, idea)

There may be a day in the future when electric makes more sense, but I don't believe that time is now (unless you live in California where they just lost another refinery and its just a mater of time when you will HAVE to own a totally electric vehicle or pedal a bicycle.

RIP Wrangler 4xE a Hi-Tech idea that was a little to soon for its time.

I’m not one to cast blame but…

I’m ok with them disappearing

Current 4xe owner here (and soon to be 392 owner). I’ve had only 1 problem with it and that was a bad coolant pump which was covered under the 10/100,000 warranty. I bought it before the 392 came out and I bought it for all the wrong reasons. I was after the torque and horsepower. Primarily, the 100% torque at 0 rpm.

If you’ve never driven one on a serious trail like rock crawling in Moab, give it a try. There’s several places in Moab where you can rent one or take an escorted tour in one to Hells Revenge, etc…. If you’ve ever done any slow speed crawling and had to hammer the gas while left-footing the brake to keep from over running an obstacle, you’ll appreciate the heavy, low key torque of an electric drivetrain. I plan on keeping mine even after receipt of the 392.

My take is that Samsung screwed up the whole deal. Too many battery issues. From an off-road standpoint, the design was perfect. It was never meant to be driven as an electric vehicle just like all the other plug-in hybrids. Unfortunately, there’s tons of car guys out there that refuse to try something new and different.. I’m glad I put my pre-conceived notions aside and took a chance on this new power train.

When I had my 2018 JLUR with the Pentacrap engine (and various valve train issues) I considered a 4xe when the warranty was up and I was looking to replace it. The instant torque was attractive and I was agravted with the 3.6 but I had to pass. I liked the fact that the Wrangler 4xe was the top selling plug in Hybrid, at the time it looked like the 4xe could have had a bright future.

Being a gear head I seriously looked over the specs and implementation of the 4xe power train and systems.

I also factored in the technicians at the dealerships that had issues just fixing 3.6l ICE issues and 2nd battery issues. Heck even after 3 attempts they couldn't fix valve train issues. To be fair I believe this was an issue of substandard components rather then technician incompetence.

I knew the complexity of the 4xe was going to be a real issue, add to that the defective lithium batteries (probably from the cheapest source), and poor electric range, the economy rating that didn't stack up and you have it. And the 4xe usually cost about 15K more then the equivalent ICE version another deterant.

Then problems with fires really woke me up. With all that said my biggest issue I won't own a vehicle I can't park in my garage because of fires. I can tell you first hand you don't want to have to deal with a lithium battery fire!

Bottom line to this is Jeep tried to make an offroad Prius, it was an ambitious engineering feat and a good try but it just didn't work. By my nature, I like new tech if its "good" tech but I won't be a beta tester.

In the case of the 4xe I am so glad I passed on this, I don't like to see the failure of any Jeep vehicle especially when you consider the fact in the end run its always the buyer that get screwed.

Its sad, look at Carmax, Carvana and Cars.com there are now hundreds of 4xe's on these sites selling for no where near the price of their equivalent ICE counterparts and that is only going to get worse in the immediate future. If you have a lease your good.
If you outright purchased it you might want to seriously consider an extended warranty that is if your in for the long haul.

Stellantis kinda screwed over the FE owners with the 79K pricing of the 392 MOAB and now the 4xe owners joined the upside down club with the 4xe cancellation. These days buying a Jeep is much like going to Vegas, feel lucky? lol

Former 4xe (Grand Cherokee owner here) What a piece of crap. Sure, Samsung deserves some blame.... Only some! 6 recalls in one year, vehicle died without notice at highway speeds numerous times while Stellantis told the dealer to give it back as there was no fix. Don't ignore the software issues that Tavares outsourced overseas. Engineering, manufacturing, etc done in different countries. Tavares cost cut Stellantis to the point where it will be several more years before they are back to pre-Tavares levels. Parts suppliers, dealers, and most of all customers were screwed.

My 2024 392 doesn't have the quality of my earlier Jeeps, but the price was crazy high. I sadly traded my beloved AEV JL370 on 38s and my piece of crap Summit Reserve 4XE in on a new AMG Benz. No recalls, no issues, and not spending time at dealer or being told not to park it front of my house or in my garage like the 4XE. Ef the 4XE, Tavares, and Tavares' minions.

I totally regret putting my preconceived notions aside and trying this PHEV crap. I had given it a few years before trying in 2023. Obviously, I should have gone with the Pentastar version.

Fortunately, I’ve never bought a Jeep for resale or MPG. I’ll keep this one at least 10 years like all the others I’ve bought. If it totally goes sideways before that, I can drop a SBC and a turbo 350 in it.

There's a lot of them out there, I hope some aftermarket company will offer some conversion kits or services for them.
Keep the faith!

I rented one last year on a ski trip in Colorado. I really liked it, especially in full electric mode when I just needed some quiet time without my 392 sending sonic booms all around. Could have been a great thing if not for the Samsung crappy batteries (I’d trade in my prius for it)….no kidding.
