2021 JLU Rubicon 392
Note: I 100% understand and realize that this is my Jeep and I should do whatever I like and makes me happy…so (while I appreciate them) no need for the “do what makes you happy, nobody’s else opinion matters” comments…

This is the dilemma. I have always wanted either a sting gray or granite rubicon with the vision of going for the monochrome gray/black/smoked aesthetic…but then I came across the 392. Having owned two SRT challengers in the past (launch year 2009 in Hemi orange and 2015 in B5 Blue) I knew I had to have the power as they do a great job with these SRT motors. But my first thought was (based on images)….”ohhh noooo that bronze has to go!”

Fast forward to my factory order month (October 2021)…place my order and knowing it’s going to be a long wait, what do I do? What a lot of impatient Jeep owners do…start ordering $hit!! A lot of the items were to help me achieve this smoked/monochromatic aesthetic (“Jeep” badging, trail rated badge, rubicon decal…all in matte black, etc.) [finally getting to the dilemma] I have now had the actual vehicle for about a month, and let me tell you! I really don’t mind the bronze! I think what helps is my color selection (granite). On this color the Jeep Badge and rubicon decal almost disappear and almost do achieve that monochrome look! Recovery hooks are also not bothering me as they are not huge. I also went pretty dark with window tint this past week which has helped with the blacked out look I like.

I think my question or why I am pausing with modifying anything bronze really comes down to my concern with impacting resale value…a collector or any one willing to pay top dollar would likely pay more for a 392 as close to factory looking as possible….

As of write now, this is what I’m going to do. I’m going to go as long as possible with the stock bronze accents (no need to rush…I already have all the parts to go full black out mode if I want). I realize I am still in the honeymoon phase with this 392…going to ride the wave and see what happens…also gives me some time to see what $ the used market starts to fetch for these.

Thoughts guys and gals? Thank you!

Last summer I was washing my 392 when a young couple walking their dog stopped to talk. The guy wanted to see the engine so I opened the hood; we talked about horsepower, torque, how the Hydro Glide system works, etc. The girl’s only comment, “I like the gold tow hooks.” That was enough for me. 🙂

If you decide you want different color tow hooks I would order a second set and keep the originals tucked away just in case.

Appreciate it. Yeah I think I read this comment you posted on another thread. I have the black tow hooks as well…from watching vids getting to them (removing bumper…removing 184885993 screws and clips) is a real PITA….but if I get to that point I’ll get it done

I thought I was going to dislike the gold accent. I bought the sarge green and the gold accent looks amazing in combination with that color. I'm keeping the declas and hooks in this original color. I think the gold accent either blends-in or it doesn't depending on the Jeep color chosen.

I agree 100%. In green the bronze plays very well.

First of all I can't believe you have had your granite 392 for a month! I picked mine up yesterday and I ordered Oct 6.

Anyway, I am going through the very same issues with the gold on my Jeep. I have matte black graphics picked out and all the Jeep badges etc but I have not ordered. I have bought different front/rear tow hooks but I cant decide either. The gold kind of works for me as much as I hate to admit it. I still think there is a good chance I will switch it out. I would get the matte subdued Rubicon hood letters, the matte black hood scoop decal, subdued Jeep Badge and find out how to remove the 392 badges, paint and reinstall.

Given that the bronze is one of the very few subtleties to suggest the premium over a standard Rubicon, if you don't hate them, keep them. As many people have previously posted, the "whoah, where'd you get the gold accents" (even from fellow Jeepers) just might be reason enough to keep 'em

Maybe we need to start a “Keep The Bronze” campaign, to convince 392 owners the logic of keeping this unique feature not found on any other Jeep, past or present.

Why keep the Bronze?
- Chics dig them...like all precious metals
- It’s a clever accent color for such a reknowned and rugged vehicle
- Without them, I believe a 392 loses its “special identity” and just looks like another modified Jeep
- You can spot a 392 from a distance, coming or going

We had a 16 anniversary Sahara and my wife's favorite part was the bronze accents. It's one of the things that attracted her to the 392. If I was creating one from scratch I don't know if I would have added bronze, but I like the way it looks with the snazzberry and it is a differentiator from the "base" rubi.....

Were the tow hooks on your Sahara bronze, like on the 392? I don’t know if I would have added bronze either; however, I’m glad someone was creative enough to choose bronze.

I believe they were. I added D rings as well and painted them bronze.

This is my exact thought process…who will cave first?! I think I will do it out of boredom! What color is your 392?

I know I know! This is my dilemma. It’s growing on me!

Solid point! Thanks for the input!

I would agree...keep the bronze! I'm on the bronze band-wagon as well. I really like how it is subtle but enough pop to say I'm slightly different if you look. (only assuming that no-one can hear the roar which is the real giveaway - IMO)

I was originally looking at a Sting Gray Rubicon and would have pitched all the red. Got the bug for a 392. I changed to black because I thought it handled the bronze the best. As time has passed I am slowly eliminating the gold/bronze and may end up completely blacked out.

If you are undecided on black vs. bronze tow hooks, you could take some electrician’s tape for the shiny black look or friction tape for the flat black look and wrap one of the front tow hooks. Then you can compare black to bronze side by side.

Smart idea...

I can see why. I’m liking it more and more
