So, I am looking for a Tuner/Programmer for my new 392, set to arrive later this month. I want to program 35" tires, etc. May even be able to change the top speed limiter. All I have found that for sure says it is specifically for the 392 is "HP Tuners". The model is MPVI2 for $299 or with Pro Feature Pro/Link for $549. Has anyone researched this and/or bought a tuner. How have those folks that received 392's and put 35's or 37's on their Jeep reprogrammed the speedometer?

I bought the JL Tazer. Allows you to adjust the speedo and a whole lot more. I haven't researched the HP Tuner as of yet. Need to reach out to them to see if there tuner will disable the top speed limiter. Now that mine is 500+ miles, I can definitely see the need to alter this.....

There's several really good videos on YouTube about the JL Tazer. Check it out. One of the cool features I turned on is the ability to turn on the rear camera without being in reverse. I have mine setup where the rear camera turns on automatically when I turn on either turn signal. It's a cool tool for sure.

Anyone try this?

I'm going to reach out to them next week and get the scoop. Gotta get rid of the limiter @ 99mph. There's still so much pedal left when you hit 99.

Thanks, I will check those guys out in my search and watch the JL Tazer video!

I noticed when you shift manually it’s easy to hit rev limiter.
Pulling very strong when it shuts down. I think another 500 RPMS would be usable

“The Jeep Wrangler is a timeless vehicle with amazing capabilities right off of the showroom floor. With the release of the JL version starting in 2018, many improvements that customers were longing for were made, but one area that they still left room for improvement in was the engine. While we offer amazing gains on the 3.6L Pentastar with our tuner, there really is no replacement for displacement. So after years (more like decades) of customers asking for a V8 in a Wrangler, Jeep finally delivered! Well, this provided us with an amazing opportunity to make what is good even better! First to market with performance enhancing calibrations, our new MyCalibrator performance tuning device is available exclusively from Livernois Motorsports for your 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392. There's an Andy Ricketts on the FB 392 page with that Livernois tune. Got some good vids. That baby is moving. Coming from the HC platform Livernois has made some fast Mopars. I'd say they would be my choice at this time.

Can this be hidden away from view? I love the idea but don't want some random aftermarket thing sitting on my dash etc. Thanks!

I vote PC78 and tazer mini. I love mine!!!

I'm going with the Superchips to simply calibrate the 37's and the 488 gears. Taser seems to offer some fun options like light shows and removing the speed limiter. I not very comfortable going over 100 mph in a vehicle set up to safely drive 65. Liability may be a concern for that, but that's just me. Had a Taser Mini in my Diesel and it was problematic. That's my experience but others swear by the Taser. To each their own. Good luck. 👍

MYCALIBRATOR PROGRAMMING BYPASS CABLE FOR 2018+ CHRYSLER

I think it's just bypassing the security gateway module.

The instructions indicate that you remove the stock ODB socket from the bracket, and replace it with this one, the stock OBD then plugs into this harness, and runs another plug over to behind the glove box to plug into the CAN bus.

A little off topic from the bypassing cable. I was in the jeep dealer and talked with the service manager yesterday, to see if they would/could unlock my 22 PCM when the warranty is up, so I could install a tune. He told me that it did not need unlocked. He said, when you hook up the tuner tool to the OBD, the PCM will accept the tune, no problem. Do you think the unlock hassle and cost is a sham?? To make all the changes with the Z Tazer, you don’t need the PCM unlocked, hmmm???? It just made me think about this unlocking PCM hassle business.. :)

I suspect the Tazer is not modifying the PCM engine parameters, but rather the BCM (body control module) thus no need to unlock the PCM.

Manufacturers began locking the PCM/ECUs after enduring a string of warranty claims from owners who tuned the ECU too aggressively, and damaged the motor. Then they would return the tune to stock, and call the dealer wanting the engine replaced under warranty. If the dealers were unable to prove the tune was modified, they pretty much had to replace the engine. This was especially prevalent with turbo diesel trucks.

"Locking" the ECU/PCM, really means that they put a password on it. A long complicated password, that is required to write any changes to the unit. I'm not sure if it's the case, but as an IT professional, I would certainly make it so that each time the ECU is powered on, it copies a new stock tune from memory at "boot up". This would make tuning pretty hard, as every time the ECU "woke up" it would revert to the stock tune, wiping out any unauthorized tunes. This marathon is pretty common with networking gear I the computer world.

I have no doubt that the unlocked PCM is necessary. Dealing with the shipping/returning/customer issues for this is not free, and I do not think it's a smokescreen to extract more money from consumers.

Edit: I'll add too, that from the dealer tech perspective, unlocking might just happen automatically due to the dealer software. Leading them to believe that modifying the PCM just works.
