Increased Intake noise.....noticed after dealer oil change. Solved....

So go the oil changed at dealer for 2nd time (free Jeep Wave). 12k miles. My daughter was driving it last night with me and the wife in back. She noticed a sound under acceleration. I could not hear it. She said it sounded like air hissing. I was listening for the noise driving it to work this morning and noticed the air intake sound is more noticeable now. Checked the rubber stopper in floor as someone reported that made outside noise louder. Checked under hood. Everything looks fine. Airbox is all good. I felt around and confirmed that they did not removed the air filter.

I do think it is louder than it was before. Hydroguide looks completely intact. Gonna do more thorough inspection and make sure hood scoop is not stopped up. I'm guessing if the scoop had something in it then it would have to suck through the auxiliary pathway and that might cause increase in intake noise. Runs perfectly fine.

It actually is kind of a cool sound and I wouldn't mind it staying. Almost sounds like an aftermarket air intake did on my 3.6, just not as loud.
Any thoughts?

Hmmmm. I had my hydroguide off this weekend and got it back together but there is no reason to do that for an oil change. Did they change to a different air filter?

No just the free oil change. Only other thing I found was blowing all the tires up to 39 psi. No reason to mess with hydroguide or air filter. I thought they might have checked the air filter as part of the vehicle inspection. I wish they would just give me the oil and filter and let me do the change myself with the Jeep Wave

Ridiculous to have reservations about letting dealer do the free oil change, but.................

Completely agree. I buy oil and change myself. I did the same thing with my 2015 GMC, skipped the free oil changes. I have a good friend that is a mechanic and has worked at a few dealers. Knowing him and what he has told me about techs there make me never want to go to anyone for work on my vehicles.

Alright....probable nothingburger.
Hydroguide is not blocked. Very clean inside. Big enough to stick hand up in there from hood side and feel around. Looking with a flashlight, no way is it blocked. Air filter is OEM and pretty darn clean still. Airbox sealed tight.

Sound is almost certainly just intake noise. Guess I haven't noticed it because of all the focusing on the exhaust sound, but I don't really think anything is going on. Don't think it is a sound deadening issue as valve/road/wind noise not louder. I probably wouldn't have noticed this if my daughter hadn't pointed it out. I think it has probably been this way all along.

Can yall hear the intake sound while in quiet mode? Of course it is most noticeable at part throttle before exhaust gets too loud.

Still, not sure if I'm gonna let the dealer do the 3rd free oil change. This falls under the old saying, "If you want a job done right, do it yourself." Of course this rule has led to me breaking stuff because I didn't know what I was doing, but I can do an oil change without overinflating the tires.

Just intake noise. I am pretty sure it is unchanged. My daughter just spooked me when she was like, "What is that noise?" Had the radio down quieter than normal and she noticed it. The exhaust sound is usually the dominant sound and I haven't paid that much attention to the intake noise.

With her noticing it after a dealer oil change, just made me nervous. I'm probably going to let them do the 3rd free oil change. One nice thing the dealer does is free tire rotations for the life of the vehicle and I will probably let them do that. I do enjoy doing my own maintenance but with two teenage daughters having lots of extracurricular activities, free time is at a premium right now...........

The rest of the story is the noise was increased and it was due to the passenger side floor plug being knocked out of its hole. The mopar mats fit down in the factory drain hole and the little drain in the mat was kicked out. It did make it noticeably louder, but not in an unpleasant way. Kind of enjoyed the intake noise. Put the plug back in and it is quiet again. I checked the driver side as someone else mentioned it as a possible cause, but the passenger side I noticed when I was putting the top up. Oh well....

It is interesting to note that the intake noise was most increased. Not exhaust or road noise.

I just stumbled upon this pic I never got those plugs with my mats. Unless you’re supposed to take out that plug out of the Jeep tub(floor ) and then install it in the rubber floor mat.?

The plugs don't come with the mats, they are the plugs that are in the floor of the Jeep. The mats are designed for you to cut a hole in the carpeting, remove the body plug and insert the mat through to where the body plug was. Then you put the body plug in the mat. That way when you wash the mats, you pull the plug and the water drains underneath the Jeep.

Yes sir I just came in from the garage and checked that out . I ordered mats with the Jeep dealership put them in I never liked that hump in the floor . I did discover the partial carpet cut out . I removed that ( less of a hump) asked a different dealership they had no clue. When I ran across Hardhat’s post thats when it hit me. You probably saw smoke rising up from over here in Tucson Arizona. I was literally pulling up the mats as you were responding thanks. I just didn’t like the idea of pulling a body plug with carpet as a gasket even though the floor mat pushes down through and into the tub . But now it all makes sense I did make my own plugs out of rubber material it fits flush .

Yeah, he had several different colors and combinations of foreground and background colors. It has been a few years since I got mine, so not sure if he is still printing them out or not.

My 2022 Ram 3500 Diesel Dually has been sitting the the dealer for a month and a half because I took it there for an oil change and they called me to tell me they forgot to put oil in it and started the truck and let it run "for a minute or so". So I've been waiting for a new engine from Cummins since 10/11.

Yes sir I will have 3 free oil changes for life. They give the juniors the easy job tire rotation oil changes. No thanks . Yes I wish they would just give us the 7.5 qrts and filter. But nooo they just can’t do that
. They would rather give out new engines. Unbelievable I agree with Hardhat on this one .

I can change the oil in less time than it takes to drive to the dealer and when it's done I know it will be right. The dealer isn't even all that far away.

I do it in the garage. Pull the plug, move onto something else for 30 minutes or as lona as I want then swap the filter, install plug and fill it up.

I'm sure they were very apologetic but still left you without your truck for 6 weeks.
