I’ve been thinking about securing the hood with lockable hood latches that some of you had already installed. I just don’t really like the plastic version with a simple lock from Amazon. I wish they are metal. The DV8 version (https://www.jeep392.com/threads/locking-hood-latches.744/#post-14092) feels too close and they’ll contact the paint though.

I watched couple of videos and it seems there’s no build in hood alarm on the JL and JT.

But someone also commented to that video that their hood comes with hood alarm. I’ll test mine tomorrow, but wanted to create this thread and get insights from you guys. Future owners may also find this helpful if any.

I don’t have a Tazer mini so can’t tell if it can be enabled. May ask the dealer to do it if it’s easy. But on the other hand, why it’s not enabled from factory setting?

The dealer will not be able to help with this. With the Tazer you can enable the switch under the hood as an alarm. The switch reports to the computer that the hood is open. The Tazer uses that signal to trigger the alarm the same as if a door is open while armed.

Thanks. Sounds like the Tazer mini will need to be plugged in all the time for this hood alarm. Would installing Tazer mini cause any issues with dealership service or warranty in general?

It really shouldn't but they make a little extension cable that allows you to unplug tazer and plug back in factory module without scraping knuckles when you take it to dealer. My dealer said tazer is fine, tuning is not.

Good to know, thanks. I’ll look into it.

My main concern is security. Figured any lockable hood latches can be useless in front of of a cordless grinder. Hood alarm can be more effective.

Had no idea the Tazer would do that. Will have to get that turned on. Thanks!
