This just happened today after I heard some extra metal noise. Turns out the harmonic balancer came out of the crankshaft pulley. I was able to remove it to prevent further damage. It's not bolted in—it looks like it was just pressed into the housing, possibly with a rubber isolator.

What's the proper fix here? I really don't want to go to the dealer, but this might be one of those cases.

I have looked for upgraded dampers that are the same size as the stock one but have not been able to find one. I was thinking about replacing the stock one when I do the supercharger install, but I am probably going to just end up pinning the stock damper if it looks OK the ATI units are only available in an overdrive or underdrive.

That sounds like a plan. I think mine fell out after I had a hard pull at stop light... been doing this so many times and finally...

I still have the max care warranty, will call a couple of dealers and see if they have the pulley in stock and can fix without leaving the jeep overnight there.

This is nuts. Jeep should recall with new design part

Definitely! If this metal ring ever falls off on the highway and doesn't get stuck with the jeep, could be a road hazard and kill others...
It’s been a known issue on the 6.4L for a while. Both Challengers and Chargers there’s posts on their respective forums.

Yea, I did find a few threads on the Challengers and Chargers. It still puzzles me how could the inertia ring walk out the housing, the rubber seal/isolator looked to be fine. It would be much better/safer if it's covered or secured to the housing but still allows free spin to soak up the vibrations without falling out.

For education purposes, I just watched this

Yes seems like a stupid design
