Have done a search but not found specifically what I am seeking.

Looking for ideas/photos of where you all have installed your Ham/GMRS radios. On my 2013 JKU, Quadratec had an easy mounting system above the rear view mirror which is no longer available for the 2022 392. I like a clean, not really visible install, so the top of the dash is out, though that is where I have my 67designs rail mount for my phone and InReach which are both removed when out of the vehicle.

Not sure I want to go with an overhead Molle type panel so seeking your ideas. I will be installing my BTECH Mini UV-25X4 25 Watt Tri-Band Base, Mobile Radio: VHF, 1.25M, UHF Amateur (Ham) again.

Any ideas/photos you may have would be appreciated. Thanks

I don't have my 392 yet, so I can't confirm if this is still true or not, but on JL's there's a space behind the panel beneath the steering wheel, you should be able to pop this off by hand to check if there's enough clearance for your unit.

I know you already have a unit, but in case you may be open to buying another unit, this is the one I have and love it! The base can be hidden from view and the face can be placed anywhere since it's small and light... Powerful too! The pic is how I have it on my TJ Jeep

Yes, the JLU has a similar space…

I mounted the body of the ham radio in the passenger side footwell using a custom bracket i made that bolts into existing bolt holes. It's totally hidden and is not bumped by a passenger's feet or legs. The head unit of the radio is mounted to the dash using a 67 Designs ball mount. I created a custom RJ45 port to connect the head unit to the body and the cables are hidden inside the dash.

Check this out... the mount will hold my dual band unit in place of the GMRS pictured as well. The mount is about $40 at Quadratec https://www.quadratec.com/p/quadratec/quick-disconnect-cb-radio-mount-jeep-wrangler-jl

After some measuring the spot under the steering column may not work. Thinking I will switch radios and mount it to the left of the brake pedal on the silver bracket shown. Good size cavity above there with room for the new Midland MXT575.

Keep us posted on what your final solution ends up being, I'm going to need to do something similar with my MXT275.

Following. I have a Wouxun kg-1000g showing up today.

I just finished a midland MTX-275 over the weekend. Good little radio with plenty of range for me. Used a 67Designs magnetic mic mount along with a cooltech LLC antenna mount. Turned out well. I can yank the mic and mic mount when not in use for a clean/hidden install

That Is a clean install. I like it. Going to follow your example on the microphone placement.

You'll need to add something to the back of the handset to make it magnetic. I picked up this kit for my install which includes sticky metal plates you can just slap on the back.

Installed the Wouxun today, super easy to install. Only problem is all I hear so far is in Spanish. Any units translate? 😉

I completed the install along the fender side of the driver footwell. Ran the antenna cable and microphone extension cable under the dash. Microphone extension terminates along the transmission tunnel at passenger footwell and antenna cable routes through to rear tailgate with antenna mounted on the spare tire mast.
