Has anyone ever had their alt pulley explode and destroy the serpentine?

Damn...hopefully the shrapnel didn't damage anything else.

In this forum thread, it looks like at least three other 392 owners have had the same issue, possibly four if that's what is going on with the OP:

Serpentine Belt Came off and Started Overheating

Here is a good trade journal article about OAD alternator pulleys, describing what they are and how to check them:

OAD Alternator Pulley - motor.com

Litens, the OEM part manufacturer says this:
"The OAD is designed as a sacrificial part of the front-end accessory drive system, protecting other belt driven component as well as the alternator."

At 66k miles, I just ordered a new alternator pulley as a preventative repair (Rock Auto ~$55). This would not be a good failure in the middle of nowhere...

Yup, not good.... exact same thing happened to me a couple years ago. Caused no other damage but cost me a +$1K tow bill back to the house from the middle of nowhere and 3 weeks of excuses without the rig cause the alternator was on "backorder". In my case the alternator was the root cause. Was ultimately replaced under warranty but no one ever gets whole on the total out of pocket cost or inconvenience; not that I'm still bitter about my dealer experience or directly with Jeep 😡. I do have the APEX on the shelf....

Hopefully you have a much better experience!🍻
