Full PPF & Ceramic or Half PPF & Ceramic or Just Ceramic

Hey all!

I know there have been several threads on this, and I have DM'd a couple of you, but I am totally on the fence with my 392.

I like the idea of the full PPF, but I am not sure about the extra cost of it. I plan on keeping this one a VERY long time.

I appreciate any advice in any capacity.

I'm in the same boat as you. I've already ppd'ed the rockers since everyone kicks those getting in the car. I'm thinking I'll ppf the fenders as well and ceramic the rest

I did a full PPF on my 2022 392. It gets used offroad frequently and I have to admit that this is the only Jeep I've owned in the last 50 years that has no brush scratches in it. When I do manage to brush scratch the PPF it is self-healing. Park it in the hot sun for a day and the scratches go away. Big scrapes and bent body panels from contact with a rock up on the side of the body tub don't heal. Was it worth the cost? I think the jury is still out on that one. You will have to decide for yourself.

Not worth it if your paying 6k+ on a sub 100k car that doesn't get hit in the aftermarket if you paint a panel. Completely worth it in my McLaren because if you paint any part of it you can take a big hit when you go to sell it. On cars that were 300k it's worth protecting but on a jeep you can just touch paint most things and even repaint a body panel for a lot less than must are charging for ppf. Maybe if you can get it for 2500 then it's worth it. PPF has just gotten so expensive in our area it's not worth it unless the car is very expensive. Spending 8 or 9k on my 392 which is now worth about 50k is insane.

I guess I'm insane then... I did full PPF on my 392 when I took delivery in 2022 and looking back I'd do it again (which is the definition of insanity ).

To me it's worth spending money on something if it makes me Happy, saves me Time, or gives me Freedom.

Adding PPF is basically like turning a cast iron frying pan into a nonstick skillet. My Jeep is my daily driver. I use it everyday. With full PPF I'm Free from worrying about rock chips or road salt. It's stupid easy to clean and saves me Time, no micro scratches, no swirl marks, bird poop disappears. And it cleans up to looking like brand new with make me Happy. Lot's of Jeep mods are about Happiness and Freedom and not about the return on investment like you suggest.

If I had a fancy 300k "investment" car I would not put PPF on it unless it was my daily driver. PPF gives the paint a subtle orange peel look, clear coat looks much better. You can't detail or polish PPF to the same level you can get a clear coat to. But then again if you really do own a McLaren then you know that a new windshield is going to set you back $20,000 - $30,000 which is truly insane.

Not to change the subject but I just saw the current rides section of your profile while reading the above comment. I thought, wow I miss my '76 Beetle. Then I saw the IFR/VFR designators. I wonder how long it takes to get coke out of your nose and off of your laptop. That made me laugh. I would have preferred to not have had my coke tipped up at the time.

I did the full ppf and ceramic. I wheel my jeep hard through the sierra mountains and it gets muddy etc. The ppf is stained and looks horrible now after a year. I am taking it back to have it all removed. I think ppf is good on a car that is mostly garaged.

Full ppf minus the top. Worth every penny, especially if you are keeping it long term.

I'm glad someone else shares my sense of humor... I love driving that bug, going to teach my daughter to drive it this summer. I like your Wild Weasel quote. I've had the privilege to work with a few of those guys over the years. One guy had gone on to fly high altitude reconnaissance and I really like the quote he told me: "Though I fly through the valley of death, I shall fear no evil. For I am at 80,000 feet and climbing..." As someone that has only been in the 50's I can only imagine.

Exactly! I'm keeping my 392 for a while so that makes it worth every penny. 4 years old and it still looks like new.

Full ppf in 2022 and no regrets. It's been on many trips where pinstriping would have happened. Easily cleaned and has never stained.

Makes the decision even harder



The thought of the protection from scracthes and ease of cleaning, I love to hear. BUT the thought of it looking bad or orange peely, make me leery.

A tough call for sure.

I looked into this about 3 months ago and came to the same conclusion that there are lots of pros as well as cons and just comes down to personal preference. At the time I figured I'd put the decision off a few months as mine spends the better part of the winter garaged. With the replacement value now plummeting and who knows what is still to come I doubt I'll pull the trigger.

This makes the most sense. I do want it protected and I plan on keeping it for a long time, but values are going down.

If you’re planning to keep it long term, PPF is worth it in my opinion especially on a 392 that’ll see some road debris and trail use. It’s expensive up front, but way cheaper than repainting later. Even a partial front clip is a good compromise if full PPF feels like too much
