I'm exploring the posibility of modifying the exhaust to allow fitment of the Long Range Aux fuel tank. it looks like the 3.6 JL has a single exhaust pipe and resonator behind the cats. Anyone have a decent picture of the stock exhaust with your Jeep on a lift?

I'm toying with the possibility of changing the pipes to be stacked on top each other rather than running side by side. It may or may not require eliminating the resonator, but not sure I care too much.

Here's the tank installed in a 3.6 Jeep, it looks like there should be room between the tank and the frame. An extra 17 gallons of range would not suck.

You may have seen it but someone did get this done on a 392. He said it took a lot of custom work from a local muffler shop. I would be happy with an extra 5-10 gallons if it was easier to make/install.

Yeah, you'd think it would be easy to just reduce the width a bit to accommodate our exhaust, and reduce the volume by a few gallons.... It would still be enough capacity to make it worth the effort.

I saw that thread some time ago.... as I recall they went down to a single pipe along the tank... I was hoping to avoid that, by stacking the two vertically.

I also wonder if switching to a couple of square tubes to make use of all of the available space along the frame would be worthwhile.

Fresh off my lift. Took these for my hopes of a smaller LRA tank. 7-10 gallons would best with no exhaust mods.

well, that looks like keeping the resonator is definitely out of the question. Thanks for the pics.

Not sure that would be great for a rock crawling rig though. Not saying everyone takes their 392s crawling of course.

Yeah. I'm mostly doing more overlanding and trail riding these days. I have less interest in the hardcore stuff these days. I'm looking to get off the beaten path and just enjoy getting into the backcountry to do some sightseeing or fishing or some camping on. mostly pretty moderate forest service roads.

Plus I think the aux tank hangs down the same amount as the factory tank does. I think I can delete the resonator, and have the two pipes rerouted without decreasing any under frame clearance.

If I lose a little, it's not too much of a deal, for me at least.

Look in the options for the bumper below there is an option for this bumper to carry 2 4 gallon flat packs. Maybe not as much capacity as an under body tank but far less modification. I saw this installed on a JL on YouTube.

Yeah... My JK has the AEV rear bumper/carrier with all of the options... If I were looking to highly modify my 392, I'd probably go that route again. that thing is awesome... carrying 10 gallons of fuel, a high lift, water, a shovel antenna mount rear light....

but.... I'm to the point now where I'm trying to avoid "Jeep Clutter" as much as possible. I did so much to the JK, that it became no longer fun to drive.

I'm hoping to avoid that trap with my 392 and keep it minimalist looking. If I can.

I'm building out an overland trailer that can catch all of the clutter.... but occasionally I expect to make trips where I'm not taking the trailer, so having the extra fuel in the Jeep, instead of the trailer would be nice.
