OK, the date stamped on the rear bottom of the Pennzoil bottle for 0W-40: is that the expiration date or date of manufacture?

Motor oil will not go bad. I've read statements from oil companies saying that no matter how old it is, its still as good as the day it went in the bottle. If oil is old enough it may not have been manufactured with modern additives but its the same as the day it was made.

If you think its spoiled I'll dispose of it for you.

The one I used has expiration date on box. The date at bottom of bottle is probably manufacture date.

we are debating the expiration date of fossil fuels now?

sorry j/k, we are working with synthetics in these engines, they don't go bad unless there is a contaminant or if they have been exposed to some radical temperature extremes. contaminants come from broken seal or a bad container material. The containers are perfectly capable in a good environment for decades so if the product is sealed it is probably ok
