Not having my 392 yet doesn't mean my wallet stays put. So part of my build will include rock sliders / step combo. Some of the JL community favs include the RSE power sliders or LOD.

However, I have a pet peeve about most: they all seem to short (length wise) and leave an unfinished (in my eye - some won't care) area just under the fender flares:

This is not unique to RSE, or LOD; most are like this.

The ONLY manufacturer that doesn't (as far as found, please feel free to suggest others if you know) is ARB, which tucks it nicely under the flares, both front and back:

Of course, ARB has a major flaw (for me) the upper part that needs to be drilled in the body of the Jeep.

My questions:
- anyone aware of design similar step/slider combos that tuck nicely
- anyone tried to install the ARB w/o the upper part, but leaving the OEM Rubicon rail in place instead?

Thanks!

Check into Rock Hard 4x4. I believe they cover the entire pinch rail.

Tx. They do Indeed. I was looking at them too, but in the end I’ll order the RSE ones because of the step. Both me and my wife are on the shorter side.

Nonetheless, is still unfortunate in my view on why those rails are so short. Is not like someone (or at least not many) will cut their wheel arches.

They are like for a reason, usually, people go with big tires such as 40s and a full-length slider/rocker will rub. If that is not your plan, then you should be fine.

Now back to your question, there are a few important details that will help you and others recommend a Rockslider, such as:

Frame or body-mounted?
Tubular?
With steps or not?
With rocker guard?

Personally, I love the look of the Unlimited Crusher from Motobilt because it does go all the way front to back but it is tapered to leave room for a big tire.

A quick shot of chrome-be-gone on that exposed painted area in your favorite shade of black will make it just disappear.

I see your point. Nonetheless (in my view) smart engineering would be able to address such as having an area that can be cut for larger tires. I still think is maximizing profit by product ... shrinkage 😀.

Yes, that's what I did on my JK.

Anyway, I went with the RCE power sliders, which does have this annoying design. Their Labor Day sale and more importantly, my wife, overwrote my objection with her need of easy Jeep egress/ingress.

I am also looking at RSE's and various other steps. So opened up this thread. I'll mention that I'd assume that the OP is like me in that the Motobuilt is not wide enough for an actual step. (I have PureJeep sliders on my JK and wish like crazy they made them for the JL. They're wide and indestructible.)
But I have a question on Motobuilt- how is the quality? Service? I am looking at their half doors and can hardly find a single review about this company or their products. It bothers me that in their ad photos for this step/slider - the red Jeep above- you can see what looks like rust. Their template seems a little off at the front fender as well. It makes me wonder about their attention to detail. Their stuff isn't cheap,...

Damn. I guess I missed that sale.

That's actually the price for re-conditioned steps. Gonna have to pass on that....but thanks for checking.
I think those are like new, with same warranty. I might be wrong, in which case please disregard.

I never had an issue buying manufacturer re-conditioned products directly from the manufacturer, like from Apple. Except for the box they all are exactly like brand new.

Here is from RSE's email:

Those 2nd gen steps will not work with mid-22 and newer Jl... just FYI
