anyone using off road + for everyday driving?

Very new to forum, and to 392 ownership— have had it for about 2 months now. Proper break-in has been followed to a T; now in OR+ almost all the time except on freeway. Haven’t verified if MDS comes on or not.
Now it's time to break in those paddle shifters!

Yes - I have already commented on this thread. I just wish we could get the 392 with a clutch! How awesome would that be?!?! Anyway, I still drive mine manual using the shifter 100% of the time. Closest I can get to three pedal driving. BTW, you can really get the exhaust to pop loud when manually shifting - if that matters to anybody. IMHO way better than a horn - LOL!

My 2006 Jeep is a 6 speed manual and when I was looking for it the manual was a requirement for me. I love it. I have not found the same experience shifting the autos so I just drive in D.

Yes! I have been using em a lot! Especially the during recommended break-in period where the manual suggests driving at a higher rpm when possible. I just installed AWE, and now the manual shifts with moderate and above acceleration are blastingly fun!

Oh man, I just don’t know why they don’t offer a true manual in the 392; seems like they’d sell a ton if it was good-quality shifter like the Tremec or something.

I dunno if it’s just mine, or all 392s; 3rd-4th shift is louder and longer than the other shift points.

Mostly agree. There is NO substitute for a true manual—shifting the autos, IMHO, is not at the same level, but still a lot of fun, especially in OR+.

You know - I have not tried manually shifting and in or+. Will definitely give it a try! Not only would they sell a ton of them - combined with igla, there would literally be no thefts!!!

I wish I knew what magic you guys were using.... I'd use Offroad+ all the time if it disabled the MDS.
Why not just get the NoLimitz from Z Automotive to turn off your MDS for good? It works great on my ‘22.

Is there any particular reason you'd want the MDS turned off permanently?

I figured a little 4cylinder "fuel saving" would be beneficial when I don't want to drive it like a hot rod lol.

Me personally, getting the NoLimitz was more about blocking the RFhub than anything. Although I still wanted to be able to have it in "D" and not have MDS kick on. I hated the sound of it kicking on and off.

So, what does the MDS actually sound like when activating/deactiving?
I hear an aggressive low grumble at lower rpm's when I press the accelerator, could this be it? If that's it, I personally like hearing it. 🍻

If it's engaged and you press the accelerator you'll hear a little burp when all 8 cylinders engage. I hate the sound when it's just 4cyl though.
You should switch to the Fuel Economy view on your dash. You'll see the "4Cyl" message appear and that's when MDS kicks on.

I'll have to switch to that view and listen to the Jeep when the 4CYL icon comes on & off. 🍻

I really dont detect much change in noise when I see 4 cyl mode turn on or off.
That's surprising when I see people say that because it sure is noticeable to me. Then again I can pickup the faintest change in noise in my rig. Drives my wife crazy when I suddenly turn the radio all the way down and ask "do you hear that?" The answer is always no

I’m exactly the same….and so is my dad. I’ll have him ride with me just to sniff out what I’m hearing.

I personally don’t like the feel or sound of the engine in 4 cyl mode. I didn’t buy the Jeep for fuel mileage, so I could care less about any small gains. Before the No Limits came out, my 1st mod was a new pcm and DiabloSport tuner just to prevent the mds.

I'm not sure why Jeep insisted on the MDS for our 392s. I have the NoLimitz device installed to disable the 4-cylinder mode, and my mileage has made exactly no change. MDS seems to do little to nothing to improve fuel economy. I think it's mostly "Green Theater".

We go offroading as often as possible. I have to put the Vette away for the winter and daily the 392.
