anyone using off road + for everyday driving?

Granted, mine is not a daily driver - but I always drive it in manual mode. Don't use the paddles but use the shifter like a straight shift. Next best thing without a true manual. This really allows the exhaust to gurgle and pop. The only time the exhaust button goes to quiet mode is on a road trip when I actually make it into a gear higher than 5. Have never seen the 4 cyl mode. LOL.

I do believe manual mode does lock out MDS. Interesting how or+ gives different results.

I wish I knew what magic you guys were using.... I'd use Offroad+ all the time if it disabled the MDS.
I tried it again this afternoon and absolutely no MDS in Offroad+. Drove about 20 miles round trip. Tried to hold RPM steady at different points cruising and could never get it to go into 4cyl. Side streets, highway, frontage roads... No MDS in OF+ no matter what speed.

No MDS in my 2024 either in OF+.

I’ve tried cruise, part throttle, lift , etc in regular automatic trans mode. Zero mds.

I don't think I can set cruise in Offroad plus. I believe it tells me "cruise not available"

I have a 22’ XR, It got delivered in June of 22’ so I’ve had it awhile. I use off-road plus probably 95% of the time. The other 5% I forget to hit the damn button, LOL! I love the shifting points and the pop between shifts, not to mention all the gurgling and popping on deceleration. It has never once went into 4 cylinder mode.

Got some newbie questions, please. First, the OFF ROAD+ info from the 2024 Owner's Manual:

Just asking, what harm is there to the engine/transmission/transfer case to use OFF ROAD+ while on-road and in 4H-AUTO?

Also, what on earth does this mean? :

Traction Control: High wheel speed, slip tuning brake lock differential with no engine management

Thanks.

I don't see any harm in using off-road plus on the highway... except for maybe the liability of disabling the traction control nannies.

And I believe that line means that it disables de-powering the engine when it detects wheel slip, while engaging the inside brake a bit to help with turns.

OR+ in 4L is a game changer. I always use OR+ in 4L, gives a lot more control over the Jeep on sketchy terrain in my opinion.

Agreed tried this out yesterday and no matter what I did even cruising down a large hill at over 50 mph the mds would not kick on in off-road plus. I have one of the first 23 XR’s if that makes a difference.

Any other opinions from anybody?

I'll use OF+ in traffic with my paddle shifters because.....well, it sounds awesome! I use the paddle shifters to have more control over the longer shift pattern. But I really love it while offroading. The change in the RPMs and shift pattern make it even more of a beast, especially in 4L. Plus, it still sounds good as hell! 🤪 But standard everyday driving or highway driving I don't engage it. My favorite is how it makes my AWE exhaust pop and growl. If you're not using this button, you're missing out!

I use it on the highway occasionally. However, I find it holds the RPMs a bit too high for highway cruising. I typically turn OF+ off if I'm going to be on highway for more than an exit or two.

I use the offroad+ a lot but only in local traffic, never tried on trails or highway. I especially like the noticeable burbles during down shift. I smoked others at traffic light with offroad+ and sound is phenomenal.

Honestly I don't really like the RPM change, I didn't like the Sport mode in my GC neither.

Sport mode in my 2015 Grand Cherokee 5.7 was undrivable. Shift points were just bad for street driving imho.

Y'all got me into experiment mode after reading a bunch of these posts.

My ride is a 392XR, shows Aug 22 build on the door tag and was delivered to the dealership in early Oct 22. I picked it up right away. It was with some '23 392XR's when delivered and has the "many bolt" beauty rings and the metal dingdong safety thing hanging off of the passenger side frame...I believe that piece of metal was documented as a '23 change.

With my wife as co-pilot to watch for MDS light, I drove a 10 mile loop yesterday without OR+ activated, loud exhaust active. Mostly flat roads with some traffic , taking it easy and several long gradual downhills. MDS came on a dozen times.

Drove same loop today, similar traffic and speeds, with load exhaust, OR+ on and traction control activated. No manual shifting on either day. The MDS light did not come on once. I tried to baby the rig to see if I could get it to light...nope.

I'm retired so I get to do this kind of shit on weekdays :)

Would love to understand why we are having different results and what causes this Twilight Zone experience! o_O

can you cold start in the morning with the loud exhaust open?
....planning on... "how to say good morning to the neighbors when the 392 comes in." ....I think the TRX is not as loud at 530am on a cold start.... :)
unfortunately for your neighbors…even with the performance button turned off, a cold start will blast open the baffles for a second or two. So everyone wakes up everytime you start it no matter what. And I still smile every time-29000 miles
And also with the performance mode off, when you are driving and decide to pass or any hard acceleration will open them up, so you really can’t sneak around anybody either.
