Another drag race video

35” tires. Expected better off the line. Did he torque launch?

I haven't time things, but the torque reserve launch with the AMAX shifting makes a significant difference in the way the vehicle feels. The jeep absolutely catapults off the line and the torque is maintained stronger during the shifts. You can feel the front end rise during shifts when you do the torque reserve launch. I don't know how much of a difference it makes, but you can really feel it in the seat of the pants.

Having said all that, if the G63 is crossing with 110mph trap speed, it has a significant edge over the Jeep and fancy shifting is not going to make up for that. 100 extra HP and 150 lb-ft of torque is a lot.

When someone puts even a mild supercharger on the 392 at 5 or 6 psi, let's see where we are then :) Bet it will be a very different story.

Yea, the naturally aspirated 392 Wrangler was never meant to compete with European luxury SUV’s that have turbos and more complex engines. The 392 was meant to stomp Bronco‘s into dust, which it does.
The 392 has something the other two European mall crawlers don’t have, it’s called personality. A soul.

Carwow did the same test and the 392 (non-XR) was obviously quicker off the line than both the g63 and LR and held its own until the 99mph limiter kicked in an g63 would walk it. The v8 LR got stomped.

Something seems off on this video. First, this is an XR which we know is already a bit quicker than the regular 392. Second, the Jeep doesn't seem to be keeping up like it did in the Carwow video.

I don't expect the Jeep to win every race, but the results on this one seem specious to me.

I have the same feeling. Maybe I was expecting too much from this Jeep 392…

You are right on this point. It reminds me that the 0-60 time of this 392 is just a side product anyway. Can’t ask for too much.

If they had wanted to make it faster they could have. This is the coolest vehicle I've ever had. Being able to take the doors and top off is awesome. Plus in a real off-road situation, the wrangler is superior. I like how the jeep can go from being so refined and nice, to completely obnoxious and brutal at the drop of a hat. Jack of all trades and master of none, but it can do a little of everything.

One would think when these types of videos are made , specifically to post and draw an audience, a basic working knowledge if the vehicle would be requisite. Mine has not even been delivered and I feel I would drive that better- take advantage of the launch feature (bare minumum) as well practice w paddle shifters vs auto. Be great to see menbers of this awesome forum post their own comparison.

Both of those are 25K to 100K IF not really more than a 392, give me 25k to put into the 392 and it will stomp both of them, because I'll find a little Kitty Cat with a Redeye! and teach them both a lesson, meow....

I mean common NA V8 against V8 with twin turbo's or a supercharger, geese if they didn't beat it they would have to be a totally BIG POS!

And I'm with you guy's, let me do a hard torque launch with no speed limiter and see what it does, I think it was a total sand bag job against the 392, should have at least hung better with the Land Rover... AMG is a powerful machine and not just you're run of mill Mercedes, here Red Eye Kitty, Kitty.. Time for a Mercedes and Land Rover smack down.... There are very few engines that breath as good a Hemi with just 2 valve's per cylinder, add a super charger or turbo's to a Hemi and they will run with the best 4 valve's per cylinder turboed or supercharged engine's out there. And the Hemi is a very simple engine. NO DOHC or 4 valves per cylinder. LESS IS MORE.
