In a prior post Earl 392 pointed out how much better an aftermarket low profile light would look on the rear of my 392 over the factory buckets.

This got me thinking and scrutinizing the look and I have to agree, the factory led lights look like crap with the rear tire removed so something needs to be done.

Looking for opinions here, one of the top runners is the Marimoto XB Led units, revered by many and one of the top aftermarket replacements for quality and look its a top runner. I also am torn between the smoke/clear versus the red, again suggestions would be appreciated as with a black Wrangler I could go either way. Not cheap but they look nice.

Here is a snap and you can see for yourself, the factory lights look like an after thought and maybe they were made that way for visibility with the spare installed but they are butt fuggly with a spare removal kit.

I looked for a while after removing my spare until I saw the Motobilt in person at Jeep Beach and was sold. I liked them enough I was willing to sacrifice BSM. I know you specified integrated traffic warning capabilities but you can make BSM work with them with a little ingenuity. I don’t know why Motobilt doesn’t make a small change to the mold to make the BSM friendly out of the box. In all honesty when I swapped to the new version I had painted I have not tried to swap over the sensors but haven’t missed it. It’s also not my DD however.

I went back and looked at pictures of my 2018 JLUR which also had factory LED's in the rear. They were not nearly as bad and I noticed there is not ring that runs completely around the tail light and it also did not stick out as far as my 25 FE.

Jeep did something on the 24/25 model year to make the tail lights stick out further. I was behind a 25 4xe while I was out today and noticed it also did not have that extended ring around the tail lights. Interesting, need to look into this further I wonder if it's an xtreem package thing, needless to say its ugly and needs to go.

Ok, here's the answer to what and why, DOT regulations for Xtreem package required the extension for both width rear view to comply with the safety Triangle.

Now, how to get rid of the extentions, you need 2 parts to eliminate the extensions one for the left and one for the right.
These are:

Here's a nifty youtube video on how to complete the job:

Personally I am going to order the parts and see how it turns out, the 2 replacement panels are cheap and if they still look crappy I will order a set of of the Marimoto XB's.
