If I wanted to add a Badland apex 12,000 lb. Winch with Synthetic Rope and Wireless Remote on my 392 what would I need besides the winch. I probably will never use it just want it incase. I know there are more expensive ones and better ones but for what I want not need this should do the trick. So do I need a mounting plate? Which one would I need for this unit? Any other stuff I need to install? TIA

I've used winches from Warn, MileMarker, and Badlands. Some electric, some hydraulic. Pulls from 9,000lb to 15,000lbs.
All of them came with everything I needed, but I installed them on aftermarket bumpers that included a winch plate. And all of them worked just great.

Does it matter which plate I use on the factory steel bumper

I wouldn't think so. Winches are pretty standardized. They all have the same mounting patterns. If you've got the "winch ready" factory bumper, you just need to get one that fits the allotted space.

My reserch shows the plate can be half the price of the winch! lol

I can't speak to that, since I've always used aftermarket bumpers (which included an integral winch plate). But it wouldn't surprise me. There's a huge range of prices and specs.

And, if in doubt, get the winch with more pull. Nobody has ever complained that their winch was too powerful.

At one point, I had a Ram with a MileMarker 15,000lb hydraulic winch and a YJ with a 15,000lb electric winch. I used to tell my buddies that if I couldn't pull them out, I could rip their rig into pieces small enough to hand carry out. :)

I installed a solenoid and mounted it near the battery. Wired it to one of the auxiliary switches. That way I can kill the power to the winch if I want.

I just added the same winch to my ‘24 392. I got the bulldog winch mounting plate as it was cheaper than the other ones by a lot.
