Most of us know to get our 392s in when your "change oil" light comes on. But did you also know that your oil change interval includes an "or, every 6 months" rule also? Please review your year's owner's manual (the supplement for the 392) but my 2022 reads:

The oil change indicator message will not
monitor the time since the last oil change.
Change your vehicle's oil if it has been six
months
since your last oil change, even if the oil
change indicator message is NOT illuminated.

On another Jeep forum, a 392 owner posted that his engine blew and was not covered under warranty, for this reason. The vehicle never actually hit 6,000 miles and went far past 6 months without an oil change. I don't want to delve into the "what-ifs", warranty claim BS etc. etc of this circumstance as it's not my Jeep. The point here is just to inform folks if they are unaware. While I routinely check my fluids, I rely on the dummy light to tell me when an oil change is required, and not on a calendar. A mistake which I will now correct especially given I don't put many miles on my beastie. My service advisor at the dealer has never mentioned this surprisingly enough, even when my Jeep was there for other reasons. At the end of the day though, it's my responsibility.
(In case anyone goes to the Mopar site to pull their service manual, for the 392 supplement, you have to go to "Other". And pull up the "Rubicon" supplement. This is the 392 supplement even though it is not listed as such.)

Yup, page 298 from the '24 owner's manual. And the maintenance plan from 299-300.
Read your manual folks. Glad you did!

Yes, I have been doing the 6 month oil changes the whole time. The last one only had 2500 miles on it. I change other vehicles at 5000 miles but need to go with time on the 392.

The way I had it explained by one of the mechanical engineers is that the 6,000 mi is for oil use, the 6 mo is for moisture contamination in the oil. Especially with the cam shaft design and the MDS lifter issues on the Hemi, there is a risk of corrosion and potential failures. An oil change is the cheapest preventative maintenance you can do (other than an Italian tune up). I average 4k miles between oil changes every 6mo.

Makes sense. I just like to avoid the dealership if I can. The last time we took our Ram in for tire rotation and oil change, they didn't rotate the tires. I just took the 392 in for an oil change and there was a (small) puddle under the Jeep. Overspray was everywhere. It was apparent the filter was cross threaded or not tightened. They did send a tow truck no questions asked and corrected it. But then they tried to tell me it was just over-filled and the dripping oil and splatter was just from that. Yah. Right. It's kind of strange that after being wiped down completely, it was still leaking and only directly under the filter. And I take it to this dealer because they're much better than the two I used to use for my JK. Jeep really makes it difficult to like Jeep.

Changing the oil on these higher vehicles is very very easy. I go out to the garage and pull the drain plug into a drain pan. I can then walk away and get other tasks completed over the next hour or so. In about 30 minutes I will loosen the filter a bit to let that start draining. Another 30 minutes or so I come back, remove/replace the filter, put plug back in and re-fill. My total time spent is less than it would take to drive to the dealership ONE WAY. And I know its done right, with the right about of the right oil. Yes the filter is a bit of a mess as it drips on the steering components but I just place the drain pan carefully and wipe everything off when Im done. I dont bother heating the engine up because I give it more than enough time to drain completely.

I miss being able to do this. Living in a condo right now with inclined uncovered parking. Someday I'll have a house and garage again.

I've been hit in the eye by clobs of mud, dirt, grease, power steeting fluid etc...and gotten diff fluid in my ponytail so many times I can smell it from 20 feet away now. That was on my JK. I hand someone the keys on the 392. :p (And look what good it does me.)
I find it kinda funny - my husband made a snarky remark about the 6 month interval and Jeeps needing maintenance. Guess whose Corvette was dropped off for an oil change today? Huh, it has very low mileage. I wonder why it needed an oil change?

Well now I'm even more unsure why you would take your 392 to a dealer for an oil change given the issues you have had with that process.

Well you know how husbands can be!

23 TRX has ~7600 miles and I have changed the oil at 1K miles and every ~5.9 months since.
24 JL 392 ~5400miles I changed the factory oil at under 500 miles and the dealer every ~5.9 months.

I don't want to deal with any warranty excuses....I don't have the time to chase...

Are you guys/gals entering the self performed oil changes on mopar.com account for the vehicle?
