392 XR In better drag race

The most impressive thing to me is the jeep is the clear value of all of them in terms of performance and price. Also, you really have to give the jeep props for being that freaking fast on 35in AT tires that it still can hang with the g63 and beat the Land Rover.

I'd love to have just that clip of the Jeep vs Bronco Raptor race! Don't know many people that consider the G and LR in the same segment as the Jeep - but the Bronco was designed with the Jeep specifically in its sights.

OK so this was a great video. But not only because of the content, because of the production!

I mean... they recreated the spread of vehicles travelling at 90-100mph near the finish line so the host could do a "snap" simulated slow-mo walkaround while they rolled across the finish line... and they had all the b-roll to cover that segment too. Plus, he was talking over that part, which means the vehicles weren't running (or you'd hear engine noise)... which means, to make them roll slowly and noiselessly, they probably had someone behind the vehicles PUSHING them :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: That is insane lmao.

Absolutely KILLER production for a "fun little race video" like this. Mad respect.

I'm flattered that all these high end car review channels think the 392 belongs in company with a $150,000 Mercedes G Wagen and a $120,000 Land Rover. It's like inviting a poor friend to your grandmas coastal mansion for a birthday party. I don't know what these review guys would do if they just did the right thing and compare the Mercedes to the Land Rover and throw in a BMW as well. Without Jeep to beat on, these reviews would probably start another European land war. So Jeep saves Europe again, so to speak. Honestly Jeep doesn't belong in these races. Fun to see the race, but the Jeep is not consistent with the type of high end luxury vehicles involved.

Side note: I found out the Jeep code name for the 392 Hemi- it's called the "Apache", if Wiki is to be believed. From Wiki- "The production version of the 392 HEMI was launched in the 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 with variable camshaft timing as well as MDS in cars with automatic transmissions. The new 392 HEMI, codenamed "Apache," is based on the third-generation 5.7 L HEMI, codenamed "Eagle," and shares few parts with the 392 crate engine." I think that's pretty cool- we have "Apache" engines in our Jeeps.

I disagree about the Jeep not being in the same company... I crossed shopped with a Defender. G Wagon is a bit too rich for my wallet nowadays, but the Jeep to me is a G Wagon lite. The G Wagon vibes are what attracted me to the 392.

If Jeep were smart, they'd offer a more upscale 392 in terms of the interior finishes and maybe a fixed roof. I think they'd get a lot of takers who want something similar to a G Wagon.

I do get what you're saying, but they're not in the same segment: The Jeep Wrangler is mini-size SUV (which is odd to think of the 392 as mini, but that's where it falls). The G Wagon and the new generation Defender are in the Large/Luxury SUV segment.

This reminds me of the MILITEM build of the 392: https://www.militem.com/it/

Most people won't approach a G-Wagon thinking "I think I can smoke this Benz" but many will not even realize what hit them when the 392 makes em' look silly. I love driving a sleeper.

Not to mention the LR and G cost more. You could probably put $10k into the 392’s motor to out perform them and still it cost less than both vehicles.

That Militem is a bit gaudy to me. I'd just like to see maybe some extended leather on door panels, power seats, headliner, and some of the basic tech features that are in the Grand Cherokee but not in the Wrangler (Intermittment wipers et al).

I’m seriously considering Hellion’s Sleeper Turbos as my first major upgrade this fall/winter… no reason they wouldn’t fit, just need them to make the kit - will probably reach out to them when I’m a little more serious. Even with a VERY modest boost, this 392 can crank out an easy 600hp…. Then these drag races would be completely one sided: for a total of about $90-95k all in. That’s impressive.

I know the Bronco Raptor is running 37" tires but not sure what the gearing is. The Jeep with the 35"s and the 4:46 gears is the way to go in my opinion, imagine if the 4:88 gears were available in the automatic

Just saw a Bronco Raptor in person today at the Meta offices in Playa Vista. Guy had a manufacturer plate of some kind, and he was shooting the breeze with the valet people. He was happy to show it off, and I have to admit it looks pretty rad in real life! Told him my 392 shipped this week and offered to drag race him next time, he was a great sport about it. :ROFLMAO:

The OEM 37s really do have a pretty significant effect on the overall look of the vehicle, something about the fact that they're OEM actually makes a pretty big difference in looks up close.

I have no idea what the production schedule looks like for those things, but I imagine it'll probably be some time until I start seeing them around the streets!
