392 without XR package

I'm sure some are... for me, now that it is available it was a must have. Maybe if you already plan on extensive mods you'd just avoid the cost.

I ordered mine back in late summer and chose the half doors and sky one touch. The XR was just starting to be introduced and chose to pass. No buyers remorse because I love the damn thing. Best vehicle I've ever had. Only asked because I don't see any threads other then or mostly XR. Live in Western New York where there are no areas to use it's capabilities but love the go fast fun of it. Seventh Jeep I've had and have loved them all.

I ordered without. I plan on replacing wheels/tires. I already have a Teraflex hinge and tire carrier waiting. The only reason I would have ordered an XR would have been for the gears or if I had no plans of modding.

My local dealer had someone cancel their 8/13/21 order for a regular 392 (with some options). I bought it and picked it up on 10/8/21 at 1% under invoice. I had the dealer put 35's on it ($1,200) and I am swapping the gears this week to 4.56 ($1,600). The only thing I wish I had was the brake booster, but I am going to check into that and see if I can add it.

Much like others stated, was not an option in past January when I ordered mine. Not sure I would have selected it if available then. I moved to 35’ tires and aftermarket wheels which I would have done regardless as I don’t like either of the factory wheels. Tazor fixed shift points and mine is perfect for my needs.

Can you explain brake booster? Wasn’t aware of any changes to brake system on XR.

Never considered the XR package, for me it was a waste of money. 40s on Dynatrac Elite HD 60/80s, 5:38 gears and Rock Krawler 4.5 Long Arm Suspension. Everything on the XR package would have been reduntant.

IIRC, the XR has slightly larger rear brake disks over the regular 392.

The 392 has slightly larger brakes than a regular Rubicon IIRC. I don't believe there is any difference between XR and non-XR brakes though.

I've seen on a FB group and now doing a quick search, that the XR package adds a brake booster. No changes to the calipers, pads, size, etc of the actual brakes.

I feel like 4.56 is a lot of gearing for 35's. Are you going to be on the highway much?

Not really a highway vehicle for me... I have a fully loaded 2021 RAM 1500 Limited that I use for that.

I figured if the XR package has 4.56 gears with 35's, it must be a pretty good fit. Plus I'm wanting that 0.2 second increase on the 0-60 times. :)

From my calculations on grim Jeeper an XR with 37's is turning more rpm at 80 MPH than a non XR on 33's but if not highway vehicle I totally agree.

"The 392 XR comes with an extra vacuum brake booster that is not on the standard 392." Another little nugget Scott Blum dropped on a Facebook group.

Also, the 392 (base or XR) does have a slightly larger rear brake setup than the regular Rubicon. The fronts are the same.

Cool info on the brake booster. Are any part numbers available yet?

So i ordered mine before xr was an option or even known about. That being said, I am not sure what I would do today. The gearing under factory warranty is definitely cool, but I think it's safe to say factory wheels and tires are first to go. Expensive upgrade to have gears under warranty - but can't say that I would not have bitten, as this is not my daily driver. More power to everyone with the option to decide on - good luck! On another note - just glad we all got a wrangler with a HEMI!!!

I posted a similar thread on jlwrangler Forums. It got “some“ interesting replies. But most say the XR package is worth it. I didn’t think so, myself, but I am never in the majority in anything :):). I hate KO2s, had a couple completely self destruct in a few 100 miles…. And 8” rims are too narrow, in my opinion.

It’s more than gearing and wheels and tires
Just from memory and someone correct me if I’m wrong but you get:
1. A lift (sounds like different shocks)
2. Fender flares
3. Tailgate reinforcement
4. Brake light relocation
5. Wheels with larger tires
6. Gearing
7. A additional brake booster?
I’m sure I’m missing more
