I'm trying to get opinions from people who have/had owned both. I know all the get the Jeep for: rock crawling, more mods, top off, more go crazy stuff and get the G63 for a quieter, smoother, even faster ride with more comfort but what I'm trying to determine is which is more enjoyable as a daily.

If I get a 392 its getting the best on road performing suspension from Teraflex & 37's. If I get a G63 it will be a 15 - 18 with a little lift from springs to fit 35's.

We own a couple JK's and have been driving one daily for the past few weeks to see if I tire from it. So far, so good. So easy to maneuver around town and I don't have to be careful with it as I would with a car. I also have a TRX so when I want/need a more comfortable ride I have that option.

So far I have test driven two G63's and I just don't know how I feel about the drive. The one I drove today had 24" wheels so that was probably not a good example for ride quality. The steering just feels a little odd and there's a little lag at initial acceleration. I assume the 392 might actually feel better off the line since it's naturally aspirated?? In the G63 I feel like it's on a rake. I'm 6'3" and feel the seats might not go back far enough either (although I thought I read somewhere they can be modified to go back further). Cargo space in the G is definitely a plus!

I'll definitely go drive a few more G63's to get a better feel, but right now I don't know if I'm not quite liking the G or if it's just so different it will take a while to get used to and then will be good with it.

That's a tough one, I think it will come down to how much dirt you expect to do. If you plan on more asphalt, then I think the G63 will make more of a connection to you. Already having the TRX, that throws in a different problem as that's a vehicle that has significant "road presence" as I call it.

A 7+ year old MB or a new or new'ish 392, I'd go 392 all day in general.

G63 is a nicer vehicle. Way more refined.

The Jeep is more rough around the edges and probably has more character. I've always liked G Wagons and consider the Jeep to be more a of working man's G Wagon. G wagons have been co-opted by Real Housewives and scammers around these parts.

I love my 392. Offers most of what the G Wagon does without the associated douchiness imho.

They are about the same performance wise in terms of acceleration. G is slightly quicker in 1/4 mile but not by much.

If you are going to keep it asphalt only and never see dirt, pick which one rides more comfortable for you.

If you see any dirt, Jeep is your only choice. G’s exhaust exit at the front of the rear tire is not for trails, it’s for asphalt.

I haven't owned a G Wagon, but I do own both a TRX and a 392. Since you own a TRX maybe the comparison between that and a 392 will help. The TRX is much more refined, smoother, quieter, and plusher and more luxurious inside. It feels a little bit faster as well. But the 392 is a lot more fun to drive. Both vehicles were purchased new, and the TRX was bought 3 months before the 392, but now 3 years later the 392 has 3 times the miles on it as the TRX has. The 392 is the most fun to drive vehicle I have ever owned. I really enjoy using it as a daily driver, even now with the 4 1/2" lift and 40" tires.

I see G wagons all day in my neighborhood. To each their own. Not my style at all!
I am a hardcore AMG guy and I dislike the G Wagon.

I would 100% pick an old, low-mileage E63s wagon, or better yet, an Audi RS6 Avant. I was torn between The E63s and the RS6 a few years back and ultimately picked the E63s. I still kind of want the Avant but I see my 392 possibly needed a trailer at some point so I will need a truck.

Had a 2014 JKUR for a few years and now have a 2022 392. I can tell you with confidence they are two very different Jeeps. Absolutely no comparison.

The only thing the G does better is the sound when those doors shut, otherwise 392 all day long.

If you really want to compare, Take the doors and top off that GW then do 4.3 0-60….
There’s just no way to really compare them. The 392 has so much more to offer. No body looks at a guy in a 392 with no doors or top or any combination of that, and thinks douche bag, even though you might be one.

What I haven't seen addressed is that with a used G, the huge depreciation hit has already occurred. Not so with a new 392. While I see and want to agree with the negative comments regarding the G (or many G drivers), if you are actually lifting it and putting larger tires on it, I'd be interested in seeing it. You haven't discussed planned usage for either vehicle. I prefer the 392, but still love my AMG as well.

I hear you all. I've really enjoyed driving the JK as a daily lately but since we already have two Jeeps I thought why not get something different? Seems silly to have 3 Jeeps in the driveway

G Wagon just seemed to make logical sense. Gives me the pavement fun factor with 35's, more power, and much more comfortable for every day driving. I guess it just surprises me I'm not liking it so far.

Have you actually driven a 392? There definitely not a JK, Big difference between the 2. The stock 392 has a way better ride and steering to me compared to a stock JK.

Yes, I’ve done a test drive when I was looking for a TRX. Also know how everyone says they drive much better over the standard. If I “had” to make a decision today I would probably say I would be happier with a 392, but since I’m big into mods I’m doing the due diligence.

You should test drive both...but having said that, here is my take -

I have owned over a dozen AMG Mercedes and currently have a GLS 63 AMG (Instead of buying the G Wagon 63 - which I don't like) and a AMG GT 63 S. I have had them for a few years now and then I bought a 392 Final Edition. Now I own two Jeep 392 Final Editions and my AMG GLS (again - which I PREFERRED over the G63) sits...and sits...

This rings pretty true for me. I've had a few AMG's and they always just sat in the garage. Mostly because I have to be more carefull in a car and can't see above traffic. The more I think about it the more I think I don't like the G Wagon either. I always knew the GLS is a better ride but figured since I like Jeeps I'd like the G.

Well, this all has been really helpful and I saved a lot of money on therapy :p
