Interesting Wrangler build walkthrough showing the actual cost premium needed to upgrade from the 3.6L to the 6.4L, with the same options on both vehicles. I understand that the 392 only comes in the Rubicon, which forces some buyers to get options they may not want or need. However, for someone wanting a fully loaded Rubicon, plans to keep it stock, wants the V8 power, performance and awesome dual-mode exhaust, the cost of the 392 drivetrain is basically only ~$16K premium!! Especially for the 7-10% below MSRP deals that can be had with customer ordering. 😎 🍻

That’s a deal considering a Hemi swap can run $25k with parts & labor

This is what made me wait for the 392. I told a buddy of mine that I was building a Rubicon, but that I really didn't like any of the engine choices (I had reluctantly landed on the diesel). He told me he heard a rumor that they were putting in a 392 soon. So I told the dealer that I was going to wait.

When the time was right to order (I ended up waiting a lot longer for different reasons), I was surprised how little of a difference there was in price (relatively speaking) with the options that I wanted. It was a pleasant surprise for sure!

I'm sure others have had similar experiences as you and were able to capitalize on the timing of the 392👍👍

Some of the aim of this thread was to filter out allot of the negative nonsense being posted on social media. So many claims of "There's no way I would pay an extra $30K for just 95 more HP over a 4xe" 😆 I've seen some people claim it was upwards of $40K difference🤣

I know it would have saved me considerable searching if I had seen that you-tube video earlier on, so wanted to give other forum members, who may have had the same interest or concerns with the 392 price gap, an easier opportunity to see the true cost comparison.

If you are buying the 392 for what it is then it isn’t a comparison. If you are buying it for an around town fun vehicle, then the 4xe is an option. No way am I taking a 4xe into the woods by myself for a couple days camping, off roading, hunting trips or bad weather traveling. Bad weather for me is more than most people can handle and more than a 4xe can do. 3.6 wasn’t an option since I was selling the 3.6 Rubicon because it was way too underpowered for how I drive and where I live. The diesel was an option but I like having a choice for fuel when prices get drastically different(like now), my other vehicles are diesel. Also didn’t want another turbo vehicle, cool down times are a bummer to lessen oil coking. I will do it in a truck but a Jeep... no thanks. So for me it was pay to play. I keep vehicles that I like forever, so hope to keep the 392 forever.

I never even considered any other Jeep engines. I always liked Jeeps but what really pushed me over the edge to order a 392 was the XR package. At first I was thinking I wanted a Bronco Raptor and then I saw the 392 but was waffling last summer as I didn't really need a new car. When the XR package was announced and saw the some of the dealer offerings on this forum, I said fnck it and ordered a 392XR. I wasn't even in the market for a new car. I just knew the 392 was special and I didn't want to regret not getting one when I had the chance.

I think it has been worth every penny of the premium.

Interestingly enough I’ve priced so many Rubis over the years but always struggled to get the value at MSRP. Where I live there was just no deals ever on loaded Wranglers (or so I thought) and so I just never got into one. Then I saw the 392XR while I was way into year two of waiting for my Bronco and actually saw *value* compared (yeah, I have a few screws loose). Yes, they get a massive premium for this engine and it inhales gas, but I smile more in this thing than any vehicle I’ve owned before. And I’ve owned a lot of fun toys. Is that worth $16k? For me, definitely.

Your comments are making it even harder for me to be patient while waiting for ours to arrive 🤣😂

What I find very entertaining are the plethora of naysayers on the Wrangler Forum, and how horrible the gas mileage must be, and how unnecessary it is to have a V8 in a wrangler, and a total waste of money.

I just laugh. If I’m in the mood, I challenge the logic. 🤓

I started clicking options on a regular Rubicon and was able to get it over $75k. When I bought my JK Rubicon in 2012, it was under $45k and had every option you could get other than side airbags. Don't think half doors were an option at that time.

The 392 is worth every penny. It is like a bunch of high school boys trying to be cool designed the car. It is just pure silliness and so much fun. The exhaust sound is just ridiculous. They actually had to put work into it to make it do all the popping on deceleration in off road +. That is 100% intentional and has no practical purpose. Just cool as can be.

It really is a wonderful vehicle to drive. To me real sports cars are boring. I have to drive them too fast to make them excitung. They take turns at speed with ease. The 392 can get exciting anytime. Just put in off road + and get heavy with the right foot.

I was making a right turn at a stop sign after picking my daughter up from dance yesterday. There was a car coming from the left going about 30 mph. I told my daughter to watch how close we will be following this vehicle when we get on the road. As soon as he went by I stood on it and cranked the wheel the the right. All hell broke loose....Launched forward like a plane on an aircraft carrier. Rear end broke loose for a second as we were turning on to the road, but no fishtailing. Jeep just jumped forward and BOOM.... we were doing 30mph and less than 2 car lengths behind the guy ahead of us.

There are not many vehicles that will beat the 392 0-30 time of 1.4 seconds. That is 0-30 in about 30 feet. When you think about it, that is MOVING.....

Hand down, most fun to drive vehicle I've every had for daily driving.
