Oh.. shiny ... I might be in the market for a set of these before summer..... I wonder if I can pair these with some Clayton Performance coils on my 20a.... the 2.5" ones might work.Ordered me a set yesterday to go with my 3.5" gamechanger lift
They look very cool. From my research, their extended length is too long for the Clayton performance coils.Oh.. shiny ... I might be in the market for a set of these before summer..... I wonder if I can pair these with some Clayton Performance coils on my 20a.... the 2.5" ones might work.
Thanks for posting.
If the extended length is too long.... I could just add some limit straps. I was kind of more worried about the compressed length being too long, causing the shock to bottom out. They look very cool. From my research, their extended length is too long for the Clayton performance coils.
I also looked into the Fox 2.5 non-resi IFP by JKS: https://jksmfg.com/products/fox-2-5-performance-series-shocks-jeep-wrangler-jl-set-of-4 they seem to be a better match, can still be a tad long. Some members added coil spring spacers too.
From my research notes collected earlier, the compressed XR shocks are 17-1/4” approx front and 19” rear.If the extended length is too long.... I could just add some limit straps. I was kind of more worried about the compressed length being too long, causing the shock to bottom out.
Admittedly, I have not done the measurements and math.
But they look damn sexy! Gotta add at least 5 hp.I’m actually highly interested in these. They seem to be competing against the Falcon 3.3’s. Price wise, you can get all 4 falcon’s for about 2k. The black fronts are $1400 and the rears are $1300. So, $2700.
I need a review of these yesterday. But, $2700 for just shocks is getting up there.
Any body try them out yetBut they look damn sexy! Gotta add at least 5 hp.
$2,700 is certainly a lot for shocks.
What’s the warranty I wonder . Are they better than fox?how do they compare to ADS desert shocks . They look cool and I also like the the location away from the bumper. ADS is local for me no down time if there is a problem. Any thoughts out there?
$3000 is way to much for a copy of FOX shocksOrdered me a set yesterday to go with my 3.5" gamechanger lift
Have you had a chance to try them out yet? And if you have, how are they?Ordered me a set yesterday to go with my 3.5" gamechanger lift
If you decide to move to a longer stroke shock let me know I would be interested in yours as I have the MC 2.5" spring but am not going to run longer shocks and just keep the stock drive shaft for now. Are you using limiting straps on your current setup? It looks like they are only compression adjustable, and not separate low and high-speed compression adjustable. I like the separate low and high-speed adjustability of my Accutune Fox 2.5s now. I have the low-speed compression adjusted to just 1/2 turn back from full stiff, and the high-speed compression adjusted to just two clicks in from full soft. Those settings all but eliminate body roll, brake dive, or suspension squat with acceleration, but still feel plush when hitting bumps. With these Black Metalcloak shocks you just kind of have to hope they got the mix between low-speed and high-speed compression damping right, knowing that you can adjust total compression, but not the individual aspects of it.
Still, I do need longer shocks. I had ordered Fox DSC shocks for a 4" front lift and a 2" rear lift. I am using the 2.5" Gamechanger lift but had to add shock extension brackets because the shocks are not long enough to allow full suspension droop. I think my front shocks have an extended length of 26.5". The 30" extended length of these Metalcloak shocks would be perfect.
But, ... by changing to longer shocks that will allow more droop travel, I will need to swap to an aftermarket front driveshaft. The good part of my current shocks is they ride great, with superb handling, and I have 13,000 miles on the stock front driveshaft with no problems. And that includes the Rubicon Trail, Pritchet Canyon, and 8 other Moab trails, plus lots of other trails.
Decisions, decisions. I think I'll upgrade from a 2.5 Gamechanger to a 3.5 Gamechanger, and choose a longer pair of shocks, probably the Metalcloak ones.
Someone needs to try these and post a review. I want to know what I'm getting before making the purchase.
No, I am not using limiting straps. Thanks for the offer.
