Yesterday at lunch, I noticed oil under the Jeep in the driveway. Parked it in the garage and tossed some cardboard under it. Jumped in my Ram 1500 and went back to work.

After doing some research on the forum, it sounds like the Oil Filter Housing is known to break/crack. I called my local dealer and scheduled an appointment. I had the SA transfer me to the parts department. I wanted to ask about this part, since I saw in the forum something about a potential "backorder" for this part. Sure enough, parts gal said I see 53 currently on backorder in the country. She said something about not being able to order as a "complete unit" or something to that affect. She was a little confused about the status of this part. GREAT! 😡

I then asked to be transferred to my old SA, who is now the SA Manager for the dealership. He knows I have six Mopar's in the fleet and usually treats me well. He said double check that the filter is tight. Gosh, I was hoping that's all it was. Nope, the factory installed filter is very tight and does not appear to be the source of the leak. I crawled under it last night and took a few pics. I have oiled sprayed all the back to the transmission crossmember. I pulled the dipstick, and it still shows plenty of oil.
(Ps...my garage helper was concerned, and she wanted to help get it fixed.)

Do I dare drive it 14-miles to the dealership? Anyone with any experience with this failure?

I have and I ordered the adapter and swapped it out myself. Also there’s two plugs in the block just above that adapter and both of mine were leaking. It could br your source. If you’re handy shoot me a PM and I can walk you through checking / repairing.

Awesome post of your fix, Wow! I did not find your post in my previous searches.

I do prefer to fix my own vehicles, but with this under warranty I will let Jeep tackle this one. I've replaced the oil filter housing on the 3.6L and this 392 one looks easier. Either way, I'm not looking forward to the 392 going into the shop.

Side note, I used these pliers on the 3.6L oil filter housing removal, I wonder if they would have helped you with the 392?

Mine has the exact same problem. Did the first oil change at 1000 miles. The factory had the oil filter on way too tight. I took it to the dealer with 2650 miles and yes the oil cooler is backordered. I did drive the 17 miles to them. Probably should have had it towed.

The adapter is pretty easy job. Just sucks that they’re all backordered

My 2024 392 FE still leaking oil and dealer states "it is only oil from the coating on the part, it's not actual oil" My thought is that it should stop dripping if it is just from the coating. Noticed the oil on garage floor at 700 miles and still same at 1600 miles . See picture . Also climbed underneath a New 2024 392 FE on the Dealer Lot and noticed same droplets of oil. Any thoughts?

Ha!, not to laugh but... This is different than the issue by the OP... Thats an Engine Oil Filter Housing thing...

I have had the same issue you have in which they removed, repaired and eventually replaced my transmission 3 times. It is an anomaly with the at least all of the 2024 392 FEs and the ZF Transmission because each time the dealer removed and reinstalled my transmission troubleshooting, it dripped again when they were done. All three of my dealers 392 FE's on the lot had the same drip. Now after the last new transmission replacement, it stopped after 1500 miles of driving even though the new transmission also dripped when replaced. It was not oil coating on a part, it was ZF Transmission fluid as it will slowly get clearer with a green hue. It will glow with a black light. The drip, after cleaning several times, will eventually just hang off of the R/H Lug of the transmission lower Bell Housing until it stops because that is the lowest part of the transmission Support Cover.

See my original post.

My advice from all my drama is to clean it off a few times and wait till about 2500 miles. It should stop...I will say that because of this, Jeep Cares gave me a Max Care 8 year 85000 zero deductible warranty for free, and also and other considertion$ as my Jeep was in and out of the shop until I finally stopped going. They, (STAR Team) did not say it was an anomaly or anything, but that the Transmission needed to be replaced. I almost traded it until I saw it was a "thing", an anomaly, and it eventually stopped. Not a good thing for someone with OCD, lol... There are others that responded to my post with the same issue that has stopped.

It's a "thing", but not a "thing", according to the STAR Team at Jeep...lol

Find a new dealer. If it is oil it can travel from somewhere higher up and show up at the lowest point like in your pic. If it’s transmission fluid as pointed out by the three transmissions guy you can use a cheap black light and it’ll glow. I also pointed that out on his original post.

My point is most dealer service departments are absolutely trash and don’t have skilled workers willing to put effort into properly diagnosing an issue. Most of them seem to find any reason to shy away from warranty work. If you live in an area that has more than one CDJR dealer you may have better luck at another dealer.

similar issue at ~6,500 miles. I had more oil on the ground and undercarriage. I checked the oil level before driving it in. The dealership claims the oil filter was loose, BS I checked it. I noticed it after some hard driving, high rpms. I have not really got in it since bringing it home but hopefully will over the holidays. I'm going to let them chase it while it's under warranty but think its best to prepare for the proper fix before its required.

I would check the temp sending unit that screws into the housing that’s what was leaking on mine

Quick update...my 392 is still waiting for a part. Almost a month later.

The dealership confirmed what I already knew, it is the oil filter housing that is leaking. It is a two-piece part and its leaking where they go together. Jeep Cares has been involved and claims a part is on the way (multiple times now), yet the dealership says nope...nothings coming.

The dealership had my Jeep on the hoist and sends me a video showing them giving the entire Jeep undercarriage a once-over, then the mechanic shows the leaky oil filter housing. Sounds like maybe they put a dye in the engine to confirm the leak...not entirely sure.

The latest as of yesterday (1-8-2025) is that a new part should arrive in 5-6 business days...per the parts department at the dealership. The only good thing is that my 392 is tucked away safely in my garage this whole time and NOT sitting at the dealership.

Funny, I noticed some oil in my garage and it looked like it was coming from the oil filter. Mine felt a little loose, so I just gave it another tighten and wiped it off. Hoping that's all it was, but I'll be watching it closely. I've never had an oil filter loosen up enough to leak like that before. I'm almost at 10k miles where I'll do another oil change anyway.

Yeah, it seems to be a thing with these 392's from what I read. That was the first thing I checked, and my oil filter (still factory installed) was tight. Thank goodness it's easy to look under these as your walking up to notice any leaks right away. HA!

I’m having the same issue, purchases 392 used 9000 miles 1/6/25 and on 1/16/25 discovered an aggressive oil leak. Scheduled repair on 1/20/25. Tech rep said issue was fixed both head gaskets and oil filter gasket / housing were replaced, picked 392 up on 1/21/25, 392 still leaked but not as bad, returned to dealer same day, was then told I need the oil cooler to be replaced and the part was on back order and no estimate when the part would be in.

Dream Jeep Rubicon 392 turned into a nightmare!

Jeep wave informed me since I am not the original / first owner that I didn’t qualify for the level of customer support they offered, essentially giving me the finger🖕closed my claim and said my concern would be forwarded to keep customer care.

Damn , that stinks.

As long as it is still under warranty it will get fixed. You may not get the Jeep Wave reach around treatment where they use lube, but you will get the standard reach around where they just bend you over dry. I hope it gets fixed sooner rather then later.

And this is another reason why I have concerns about buying one of these. Since '21 and the supply shortages, the quality of all Stellantis products have gone down hill while the prices went up.

We just bought our 2023 in November. Took it in for a small oil leak. It's been at the dealer since early January waiting on the engine oil cooler, which they said would be available today (1/29/25). Just got a call that they will not have the part until 2/17. If we pick it up they will void our warranty.
