What did you do to your Jeep 392 today? 🛠️

Installed small bull bar, XR flairs, dead pedal, and Pre-runner lights in the scoop. Also painted the interior tops black and installed gun holders. The .45 is the wifey’s, she doesn’t f**k around. I love the black interior tops. I think it finishes off the interior like the factory should have done. AEV does this as an option. And love it. Will pull the back half off and finish it after I get my ceiling hoist installed. *dogapproved

Amazon. I was curious if they would hold the heavy .45 but they work great. I don’t leave it chambered so there is no risk of mis-fire. I have one on each side of the console. I carry sig 365 which is very light and hold very well.

Did you use the screws? My 365 came off the adhesive side the second I hit the trail and it was 3m

What did you do for the paint? Very interested in painting the inside of my hardtop but concerned about fumes, etc. Yours looks great.

Added two antenna mounts and found a nice location for my HAM and GMRS radios. Details here.

Took a few comparison shots of the performance of the LP6s I recently installed. Honestly the pictures don’t do it justice how bright these things are. With the high beams on you literally need sunglasses to keep the light reflecting off the street signs from blinding you. I do need to angle the lights up slightly. Looking forward to night wheeling in the spring.

Used SEM trim black. Been using that stuff for years in exterior. Scuff with red scotch brute, wipe down with alcohol and spray. Very easy

Used two little set screws that came with the magnets. Cleaned the surface with denatured alcohol before. No issues, even with heavy weapons.

I spent the past three weeks driving around a couple Jeep JL's (a V6 Sahara, and a 2.0L turbo Sport) in Hawaii, and it really made me appreciate my V8 Jeep back home. The 392 is the only Jeep I've ever owned but before I bought it I was debating buying either the 2.0L turbo or the reliable V6 JL. Now after driving all 3, I'm very happy I went with the 392, it's the best choice as both a comfortable daily driver and as a fun toy "hot rod" Jeep. A couple things that stood out in no particular order:
IMG_8519.JPG

  • Power: After having driven a V8 for two years I just can't live with that V6, it's truly gutless. Now that 2.0L turbo was a lot more fun to drive, it would be my choice over the 3.6L pentastar V6, but neither one compares to the 6.4 hemi apache, for that pure power, for that sound, or the gas milage.
  • Comfort: I think the seats in the 392 are just way more comfortable, that includes the 392 steering wheel. Maybe it's also related to the shocks/suspension but I found the cloth seats in the normal JL jeeps lacking in support and uncomfortable after a while.
  • The Power Steering pump on the V6 was super annoying, it sounded like a hydraulic pump on an Airbus. Maybe that big 392 engine is just so loud that it drowns out that electric pump's whine but in the V6 that electric power steering pump sounds awful.
  • Backup Camera: It's a small thing but the backup camera guide lines move in the 392 when you turn the wheel, in the Sahara and Sport they don't. I missed that, especially when backing into a super tight parking spot.
  • Not having a step/running board made getting in a bit of a challenge when parking on a slope/ditch. It also meant the front of the rear painted fenders were all chipped and scratched up on a Jeep with less than 5,000 miles by rocks flung back by the front tires. For me a set of Rock Sliders or the Mopar JL side steps are a must.
  • Both jeeps I got had the soft top, which I love. I can put the soft top on in about 3 minutes, But I miss the ease of having the sky one touch top.
  • Looks/Sound.... It doesn't look or sound like a 392.
I figure I would post this on here just in case anyone is like me and debating getting a "cheap jeep" like the Pentistar V6 vs. the 392. There is no replacement for displacement. (And it's also more comfortable and nicer to daily drive too.)

My wife has a 2024 Wrangler Rubicon X. Her power seats seem like nicer leather, power steering pump is very loud, cabin is a lot quieter but HT compared to my SOT, her backup camera is superior to mine with that huge screen, power is really low but does just fine offroad, her MPG is 2-3 better than mine.

All in all, if we are going around town or a short trip, we plan on taking hers since she doesn't put many miles on it but once we get out in the garage, I always say, let's just take mine.

Added Molle racks in the rear quarter panels. They fit perfect and don't rattle or make any sounds while driving. I had to notch out the top corners to clear the latches and drill the 3 quarter panel holes to use the original hard top mounting hardware. Just need to sand the edges, paint and use the black OEM hardtop bolts. Now I have a clean cargo area.

Love that about your wife!!!!!

I carry a Sig 365 too... I am trying to figure out where and what I need to mount my gun. I am 6'5" tall so my right leg is right there on the side of the console.

I think just possibly the side lower console mount would work. There is a cap with a bolt right there and CMM makes this thing appears like it's round with holes that could mount a holster.

I like to have the gun off of my while driving longer than 30-1hr digging into my back hip. Plus being 6'5" tall trying to access it on my hip in the Jeep is hard.

I have used that same one and the same spot since I think day two of owning my Jeep. Was skeptical since it was so small but holds my two main EDCs (USPC and P2000sk) without issue. I did also have to bite the bullet 😁 and use the screws to mount it.

Changed Diff fluids and installed new covers, checked transfer case fluid, oil change and installed a mount for my 4 tire air hose system.

Nice! How many miles and was the fluid clean coming out? Also, did you use RTV or a gasket for the covers?

The CMM and Alien Holster that they recommend is what I am going with. I decided that this very second.
